  • VSLdeamon crashes Nuendo

When I close Nuendo, VSLdeamon is still running, and if I relaunch Nuendo without killing VSLdeamon first it crashes.

    Why?

    Regards,

    Geert.

  •  Hello Geert,

which system and which versions of the Vienna Instruments / Vienna Ensemble are you running?

That should not happen, the VSLdaemon should not interfere with any other Syncrosoft protected software!

    Thanks for the additional info.

  • I already uninstalled VE and VI = 2.0 build 3170

  • i'd think the question was more to which nuendo version ... we couldn't notice such a behaviour here with N3 or N4 latest versions.

the vsldaemon always keeps running, even after the stand-alone player or audio host has been closed (quit)

    christian

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
  • "the vsldaemon always keeps running, even after the stand-alone player or audio host has been closed (quit)"

that is the problem, I need to quit it or else Nuendo wont run again. (4.1.3)

  • What OS are you on? I have zero problems in XP32 and can open and close Nuendo as often as I like. If you are using a standalone, how is it piped into Nuendo?

  • Hi,

Although I lurk alot on this forum, I don't usually post. I thought it might be worth saying though that I also have this problem on my PC running WinXP Pro, but with Cubase 4.1.3. If the VSLdaemon is running before I launch Cubase, then Cubase will crash out, even before a I open a project. Killing the process before running Cubase means that it works fine. I forgot to say that I am running the latest version of VI. It has not always been like this, but unfortunately I cannot say whether the problem started with an update to Cubase or a particular update of the VI.

I hope that hasn't muddied the water!

  • Can't say it any better, excactly the same here.

    XP32sp2

One thing I did was optimize windows. Preventing all processes from running who had nothing to with audio or networking

(every process in the list I searched for on google, and kept about 20)

I dont use VE or FXteleport anymore.

  • crazy stuff, got the same issue here! on a MAC! mac pro 2.8 GHz eraly 2008 8 core, latest versions of everything. Under Activity Monitor it says vsldaemon(not responding) even when i'm running a project and using vsl... other than frequent hiccups and the occasional crash while using vsl, it only rears its ugly head when i shut down a project. anyone have any ideas about this??? driving me insane! (I lost an entire day troubleshooting this!) What fun.... too bad I have come to really love these plugins!

  • Okay, just read this by Christian "don't worry 'bout the daemon - it has no Application Loop, so it does not respond. but it will to VI, however." So now I'm just wondering why the program quits after a few minutes when I close a project. Will try reinstalling one more time!

  • Tried uninstalling and reinstalling (the latest version), no difference. Someone help!!!!!!

  • So I believe I've tried everything, including uninstalling Nuendo and going back to an older version, same deal. Open up a project, instantiate one VSL instrument/ server window, close project, wait. CRASH! And burn, I can't even re-open Nuendo without restarting. I took every plug-in out of the VST folder except VSL, same deal, take VSl out of the VST folder, leave everything else in, all is good, no crash. If anyone has an inkling of what I can do other than stop using VSL, let me know, I'm dying here and I need VSL!!!!!! edit: and I know it's not the VSLdaemon, I would retitle this thread, but it aint mine, maybe I should start a new one???

  • Hi everybody,

sorry for the delay. We tried to replicate this behaviour, but had no luck. Please send crash logs to support@vsl.co.at, this will help our development team to find out more. So far, with all the crashlogs we have that showed a similar behaviour, it was not the VI that was crashing, but other applications...

I´m sure we can fix this, thanks for your help and patience!

  • Latest update, after trying everything, I tried VE2.... and no crash! (yet...) So... I'm going to use VE2 on all of my projects and see how this goes! Will report back, feeling positive about this for the first time in 2 weeks! (now i can spend all my money... er... Visa's money... on some DL instruments!)

  • OK, I've managed to reproduce this problem both in Nuendo 3 and Nuendo 4. I can give a detailed repro if necessary.

  • So it does seem that using Vienna Ensemble instead of just loading a VSL instrument stops the crashing. It means that the VE service is still running after closing the project, but that's fine with me. Try loading instruments in VE and see if that stops your crashing.

  •  Hi DG,

yes, a report would be very helpful, along with crashlogs, if possible (unortunately nobody else responded to my last post)!

Please send them to support@vsl.co.a, we´ll see what we can do about it!

Blueshift, that´s also an interesting observation.... anybody else experiencing the same?

    Best,

    Paul

Paul, I'll sort that out tomorrow.

Meanwhile, the problem on my system is caused by Vienna Ensemble Service. as simple as that...!
