  • Playback of VE Instruments in Sibelius 5.2 is distorted

I have a string orchestra piece (Violin 1a, 1b, 2; Viola, Cello, Bass) setup with Vienna Ensemble and the soundset for Sib 5.2. All my instruments are assigned to the proper channels correlating to the Vienna Ensemble matrices' channels. Each of the instruments play back, however, the sound is very scratchy electronic sounding, and the basses don't even hold the notes for the proper durations (played as if just staccato).

When I initially setup the instruments in the vienna mixer window, and played the virtual keyboard, the sounds were nice and full as they should have been. But after the first time playing back in Sibelius, the volume is drastically reduced both in Sib and in the VSL keyboard.

My system is strong: Windows vista, Intel Quadcore 2.4GHz, 4 GB of RAM. When playing back the processor indicator in VSL indicates only 20% usage.

Please help! I've spent so much time trying to get it to play back properly, but to no avail.

  • Hello!

We have not yet tested Sibelius and Vienna Ensemble on Windows Vista. Maybe there is some incompatibility.

Did you check, if your articulations in Vienna Ensemble change, as they are supposed to? If not, I'd recommend checking back your settings in Playback Devices/Manual Sound Sets, the Sibelius Mixer and Vienna Ensemble.

Did you watch our setup guide for Sibelius?
