  • Library Location - going between MAC and PC (Logic and Sonar) on same machine - MAC PRO BOOTCAM...

I have been successfully using VSL SE on Sonar with a MAC PRO and Bootcamp, but I have just moved from Sonar to Logic on the Mac boot in order to utilise the 8GB of RAM I now have. However I do need to be able to have Bootcamp for Windows with Sonar remaining on that machine whilst I learn logic properly. SO......the VSL SE library is installed on one of the 4 internal drives I have in the MAC (FAT32) and the windows install of Vienna was obviously set to get the samples from there and did so no problem. I have installed the Vienna Instruments plugin for Logic on the MAC boot, and it works fine, but doesn't see the library, and I can't find a settings box that will let me point it at the correct location (i.e. the same drive as where the windows install points to) Is this possible? I don't want to have to install all the data again and have it occurring twice on my machine as this takes up unnecessary space, and all the .dat files (113 of them I think!) are already on the computer on this drive which can be read and written to by the MAC (in other words there aren't any permission issues). Many thanks in advance for any help, Ben

  • I am not a pro at this but I am going to give this a shot.

    1.  Boot into your MAC OS X.

    2.  Do you SEE the drive that has the samples on it as one of your MAC drives?  Meaning, can you open up finder, and actually browse into that drive and see the folder?  Because if you can browse to that disk and see the Vienna Sample Library folder, then all you should have to do is open up your VSL Directory Manager (which is found in applications, VSL folder).  Launch that program and point it to that folder and hit apply.  It will then begin looking for the samples in that area.

I know that it is possible to read from a windows partition because I do it all the time from my MAC.  I am even able to use all my samples from a windows drive (Kontakt, GPO etc).  I have however not tried to read the Vienna Samples from a windows drive but it shouldn't matter.  As long as it can gain access to the .dat files then it should be able to use them.

Let me know if this helped.

  • What about Vienna key? will the license work for both PC and MAC?

  • It sure can. I use my vienna key on my MacBookPro most of the time however when I need super horse power to get the job done, I use VE3 on my windows machine.  I put the key in the Windows USB port and setup my huge orchestrations in Logic to use that machine over the LAN.  Works perfectly.  So I can't see why it won't work with bootcamp.  The key is not OS specific, nor is it currently machine specific.

Hi cgearnaey, what do you mean by that? I have so far not been able to use the ViennaKey I activated on my PC for the Mac, and I have seen indications in other posts - also from VSL reps - that this is not possible without splitting the instruments in a collection up on two dongles. Or is there some limitation to the Special Edition, which is the one I have? I have not tried your LAN solution, but I will asap.

  • I am using Logic and Sonar on my MAC Pro

They both work with Vienna Ensemble2/Instruments (I don't have VE3).

It all works perfecly with bootcamp

I didn't make a Fat32 partition because Leopard has to simply read it, so it's an NTFS partition.

I have my 6 Vienna libraries working using a single Vienna key that is on the left side of my Mac keyboard USB port (the mouse is on the right USP port) so I have a free USB port in the MAC Pro case.

    ciao
