  • Audio Drop-outs...VE3 Networking the culprit?

I am running A Mac G5 Dual 2Gig as a host (Digital Performer 5.13) and 6 Mac Minis as slaves using VE3. I seem to be getting, what seems to me, like a "bottle neck" in the Audio. The audio seems to "get stuck" and drop out for a second or 2 and then picks up again. I would say that the audio just drops out, but at times you can actually here it coming back in and "catching up". A good example is the harp. If the notes stall, they'll come back in and you can hear what notes weren't played, come rushing in.

I don't know if any of this makes sense, but it's the best way I can describe it. Anyone else having an issue like this?

    Thanks,

  • Yep it's a know issue

I tried to figure it out ...... now back on VE2 which works fine except it hangs DP5.13 about 5% of the time when first loading a project - other wise works OK. I will buy VE3 when it is ready for DP (or DP is ready for it!) :)

Sorry I can't be more helpful!

Specs same as in other thread

    G5 dual 1.8GHz

  • Thanks for the reply... That's a HUGE disappointment . Anyone from the VSL team have any info on this? Thanks R~

  •  Same isue here but running cubase as Host.

I'm in contact with VSL people and trying to solve that.

Actualy in my situation the drop doesn't appear when I do a Mixdown (offline or realtime) but only in Playback mode could you check that on your system and report ?

Also with same configuration of Dawn (G5 dual 2,3 and Mac Book Core duo 2,16) the problem doesn't appear when running Pro tools as Host witch is not what I need but interesting to see that the problem might come from Cubase or my MOTU 828 MKII.

  • Interesting that you're having the same issue on a different host. My drop-outs happen during recording and playback. Sometimes it's worse than others and there's really no pattern. I'm using the the MOTU 2408 (yes, the original) but not sure how this would enter into the mix since this is all networked audio and the 2408 acts only as a play-through? I really don't know...but then again, I'm a musician so you have to speak slowly! :-)

  •  Hey I'm a drummer so don't worry abot the understanding :-)

anyway VSL people first tought my issue came from the netmork but obviously the Trendnet Gigabit switch that I use with cat 6 ethernet cable is working fine as there is no problem when using VE3 with Pro tools...

So if you have almost (I don't have the drops when I do internal miwdown or bounce) the same problem with DP it probably means there is something wrong elsewhere....

I let you know if I get further answers from techsupport.

    cheers

  • My only other thought was, does this have anything to do with "MIDI log jamming"....could it possibly not be an audio issue at all? Just a thought...

  • Realized today that this definitely not a MIDI issue...it is an audio dilemma

  •  Any reply from the VSL team about this issue with Digital Performer would be most appreciated. Is this an issue that is made aware of and is it being worked on? Or, is this an anomaly that only I am experiencing? If this is an issue that is not going to be addressed it may be time to start looking at Logic...Logic users seem to have no problems with VE3.

    Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

  • I have noticed audio drops out when Nuendo (same as Cubase) does an autosave. This drop out only occurs using the Server version of VE. Slaves running as standalones are not affected. Maybe see if this explains the "no pattern to it" problem.
