  • Using VSL Special Edition with Pro Tools LE. Proper settings help needed, please!!

    Hi,

I just purchased The Vienna Instruments Symphonic Library Special Edition and am trying to run it on my Digi 003 rack factory.  I am using Pro Tools LE 7.4.2 with Leopard on a 2007 Mac Pro Quad core 3ghz with 4 gigs of ram.  I installed the 80 gig library on my 500 gig B drive  and the small software program on my 250 gig A drive.  I keep getting "hardware buffer' error messages "-9037" I think is the error number.  It tells me to increase the hardware buffer size.  I have tried reducing the Rtas processors, increasing CPU usage, increased the sample rate all the way to 1024.  My normal settings when I am working on non related voiceover projects is 256 samples, 3 RTAS processors, 80% CPU usage, normal cache setting, and the default 1500 ms settings.  When I run the Vienna plugin on a stereo
instrument track it works for a while and then crackles a bit or delays the note before it crashes everytime.  I have tried 256, 512, and 1024 samples, 1,2,3, and 4 RTAS processors, went to 85 % cpu usage.  and after a while it will crash and I have to restart to get pro tools to work properly again.....until it crashes again.   I thought I might of had too many vienna plugins running at once, and with only two it is still crashing. This software is engineered for computers as early as a 1 ghz G4 with 1 or 2 gigs of ram running OS 10.4 or later.  It is also assumed that to simulate an orchestra, one may have several plugins running simultaneously, even 20 or more instruments for example.  With the music production toolkit, should I not be able to theoretically run 48 stereo tracks?  Of
course I don't plan on that, but maybe 20 who knows?  But when I can't run 2 of them on a system 5 or 6 times more powerful than the suggested minimum requirement, I am getting concerned.  Thank you for reading my long post.  I am tying to give you as much detail as I can in order to assist your troubleshooting.  I hope you can help me because I am eager to compose with Pro Tools and this software library.
    Regards,
    Jonathan

  • Dear Jon,

I´d suggest to lower the number of processors in -> Setup/Playback Engine/ RTAS processors and to try Vienna Ensemble 2 as RTAS plug-in instead of Vienna Instruments.CLosing the GUI window of Vienna Instruments helps too.

    Kind regards,

    Maya

  • Hey Maya, Thanks for the suggestion. I'll download the Ensemble 2 software and try running it with that. Any recommendations on samples setting? 256, 512. 1024? Thanks for your help. Regards, Jon
