  • Key Commands

    Hey all,

I am new to VSL so I am sure this is a newb question.  I am having problems with key commands.  If I have a string matrix with multiple articulations, the key commands (C0, C#0, D0, etc.) allow you to change the articulation assigned to a paritcular note on the MIDI keyoard.  What I am doing is this: in the MIDI track that is playing I'll insert the key command at the time I want it (e.g. bar 23, beat 2, E1.) I am finding that VSL is not changing articulations when this happens.  Even if I play the keyboard in the VSL screen the articulationj odes not change.  have I missed something here?

  • Depending on the settings in your DAW/Masterkeybord C0 in VSL terms can mean C-1 in terms of your system - so everything is an octave lower than you see it in the VSL editor.

If the above answer doesn't solve the problem for you another possible answer could be that the default keyswitch for the first matrix is C0, which will stop any other keyswitches assigned to C0. If this is the problem the solution is to either change your articulation keyswitches to a different octave or remove the matrix keyswitch.

  • Hi Mark, try this simple test: load a matrix into the VI. Select 'Patch Assign' so you can see all the patches used in the matrix. Use your mouse to click the lowest C on the VI's on-screen keyboard. Now hit the C# next to it. You should see the patch change. Once that's working OK, you just have to find the corresponding C and C# notes on your master keyboard, then you're all set. If that doesn't work please let us know, there's bound to be an solution!

(BTW, the term generally used for the notes used to change patches is 'keyswitch'.)

  •  It was the octave placement.  Thanks all for your help!
