  • VIENNA INSTRUMENT AND PRO TOOLS HELP!!!

Hello There, I just Bought a VI (Vienna Special Edition) and Installed in a New Mac Pro OSX 10.5.4 (10 Gig RAM) and I'm running Pro Tools 7.4.2, (HD) The installations was nice and clean as well as the key activations, the standalone software is working perfect, The directory Manager as no problem to find the vienna library, but... in Pro tools I load a simple Harp Preset in a Stereo or Aux Track and after hit a couple of notes in the VI virtual key, the software just stop working, it does not crash it just not responding; protools still working. the VI version that I have is the 2.0.3238 Can somebody help??? Are they compatible??? Thanks, Adrian

  • I have been using VSL with pro-tools and it is fine. You have to use the Vienna Ensemble. Are you using that? I am using Pro-tools 7.4 LE so it may be different. What I do is create a stereo instrument track and use the Vienna Ensemble player as a plug-in. I then use Ensemble to manipulate the sounds/patches. Hope this helps. -Pete

  • Hello Pete :) Thanks for your advice, no I haven't used the Ensemble yet, but definitely I will download the latest version and see what happens, how is support center? did they ever reply to you? Thank you very much Pete!!!

  • Using Ensemble will definitely place less load on ProTools than multiple Vienna Instruments. Also, I got some good advice from Spectrasonics on using their new, very processor-intensive Omnisphere, and that is to set the Playback Engine to an odd number of Processors (for my dual 2x2.66 Mac Pro I set it to 3 - if you have an 8 core than to 7), set the percentage to 95% and set the buffer to 1024. I found this really helped performance. RTAS is not as stable as it should be, in my and thousands of other people's opinions.

  • Hi John, Yes definitely I'll try the Ensemble on Monday, but that means that Vienna Instrument does not work whit RTAS? because I just open a single Harp in a single VI Stereo AUX Track, and nothing else in my session, thats not right... But Thanks you guys anyway I'll try Ensemble and see wath happens Adrian

  •  Dear APA,

the Vienna Instruments plug-in is available as RTAS plug-in too and works fine (normally). Can you please send a detailed report including details about your setup, a problem description and screenshots of error messages (if any) to support@vsl.co.at

We´ll look into it as soon as possible.

    Best regards,

    Maya

  • I've been using the RTAS Vienna Instrument for over a year with no significant problems at all. It's best used on an Instrument Track rather than an Aux Insert or Stereo Track, though - Instrument Tracks are specifically designed for software instruments of this kind. Ensemble also works just fine but it still uses the VI so if you've really got a problem on your system then that's unlikely to fix it. As Maya suggests, your best bet is to send as much info as possible to support.

I'm afraid I'm off for a week in the studio on Sunday so I can't be much more help than that - although I'll be around tomorrow and Saturday.

    Regards

    Nick

  • also have a dual X 2.66 Mac Pro w/10GB RAM. thank you for the odd number of processors tip. :) we've gotten Vienna Ensemble to work fine here but i have a question: when i instantiate a send on a Vienna Intrument within the Ensemble, the output of that channel is nulled (ie does not go to the Vienna Ensemble Master Bus anymore). if i want to send the VI to the master bus and say to an aux channel in Protools to insert a hardware reverb, i have to instantiate 2 sends, one going to the Ensemble's master bus and one going to the PT aux channel. it works this way, but i don't understand why when i instantiate a send, the output of that channel doesn't send to the VE master bus anymore. i hope i asked the question clearly. any help would be appreciated, thank you.
