  • Integration of Sibelius 5 and Vienna Ensemble

Hi, I have followd he instruction from the Sibelius tutorial. I copied the sound set into the sounds folder in Sibelius but when I open the playback devices in sibelius I can't find anything in the "available devices" What should I do? Thank you.

  • Hello!

Have you installed the Vienna Ensemble yet? And if so, have you told Sibelius where your VSTinstruments or AUinstruments folder is located? To do so go to Playback Devices/Audio Engine Options/Virtual Instruments and Effects Folder. Click Browse and select the folder where you installed Vienna Ensemble.

By the way: In the available devices list you won't find any sound set, but the list of virtual instruments (like Vienna Ensemble). In the right column you can then choose the sound sets for your instruments.

    Best wishes,
    Andi

  • Thanks Andi, I have installed the VE and used it before with cubaseSX which works fine. I have done what you told me to do but I still see nothing to choose from the available devices window.. Help?

  • As I said before, you have to tell Sibelius where your VST- or AUinstruments are located. Go to Playback Devices/Audio Engine Options/Virtual Instruments and Effects Folder. Click Browse and select the folder where you installed Vienna Ensemble (the folder where Vienna Ensemble.dll is located). If you are working on PC this is probably something like C:\Program Files\Steinberg\VstPlugins.
After that you have to restart Sibelius.
After restarting Sibelius, Vienna Ensemble should appear in the list of available devices.

  • Ok so they were in the steinberg location. Thank you very much Andi!

  • I had a few teething problems with this - I think another tutorial video would be good, with a few mentions of the little mistakes people keep making - (Using the wrong sound set, confusion between channels/instruments etc) I dont like how Sibelius separates playback options from the score options/mixer, I think it makes the setup more confusing than it actually is. You just have to do *exactly* what the instructions say - and then figure out why it works as it does afterwards I have it working now though, its great Kevin
