  • what is a slave and where do I find it? (Midi/Audio instrument setup)

Hello, I came into new trouble. I was able to run now finale VSL and VE on my Computer. Than I made a big mistake: I connected once an Interface on my Mac. Now VE in Finale asks me for a slave if I'm connected or not to the interface (I surtently changed the Midi/audio device setup on Mac) I see the empty boxes the availble slaves (nothing inside) the slave and password. So what is a slave?Where do I find it?What is the Password? How do Something appear on the available slave list? Can I resett the settings if evrything doesn't work? Is it, because I downloaded (and uninstalled) VE 3 once on my Mac?

  • Hi Juda!

A slave is a computer with Vienna Ensemble running, but which is controlled by a master computer over a Gigabit network. You will only need slave computers with Vienna Ensemble 3 (our LAN Mixing and Host software). If you are using only one computer, please use Vienna Ensemble 2.

    Best,

  • Dear Andy, now I understand the term "slave computer", but I don't understand why ( if I load VE3) my Audio Interface, that hasn't any VI, provokes this question. Is it necessary to have a slave to run VE3.I saw on the tutorial that by using Logic a slave on a mac could be the mac, or I missunderstood something. So what for a slave (computer) is usefull (e.g. in Logic, finale ect.)?

  • Hi Juda!

It's quite simple. If you want to use Vienna Ensemble on more computers in a network, you will need Vienna Ensemble 3. In such a network one computer will be the master and the other ones are slaves. It doen't make a difference if the host for Vienna Ensemble is Logic, Finale or any other host software.

If you use Vienna Ensemble with only one computer, I recommend using Vienna Ensemble 2, although it is also possible to use Vienna Ensemble 3. In this case always start Vienna Ensemble Service first, before loading an instance of Vienna Ensemble with a host software.

    Best wishes,
    Andi
