  • Inconsistensies in the series?

While I'm here I might as well pose another question: some of the collections are not entirely consistent with others.

For example: AP-Strings have no Non Vibrato. (or have I missed them?)

This leaves me puzzled, because all other collections do have them.

So I wonder... is there a reason for this?

I don't believe this was simply overlooked, considering the thoroughness and perfection VSL

    handles in every single sample.

    Cheers,

    Alex

  • Well... For AP-Strings it was because the goal they set out to do (fuled by user requests) was to nail that vibrato John Barry sound. It was supposed to be a smaller release (smaller than their Orch strings).

  • AP strings was meant to be very expressive so non-vib was purposefully excluded I'm sure - DM

  • Understood, thank you for your replies gentlemen!

Though personally I believe non-vibrato is also a strong expression, used at the proper moment [H]

    Kind regards,

    Alex

  • I suppose you could set up a cross fade patch using Orch Violins14 sus non vib but that would sound a little strange. x fading is the way to go. I think a non vib Appassionata patch would be most welcome! And far more useful than the out of tune articulations. Then we could bring in the vibrato at the right moment. MIght be nice. :)

Thanks Bruce, glad I'm not alone on this one-😊

Though I must admit I do love the out of tune-patches a lot!

To match the number of players in the AP-sessions (for ex Violins = 20), it's probably interesting to layer Orch Strings nv + Chamber strings nv (14 + 6 players). There are always ways to fix it, but I prefer to have the "real" patch at hand, saves time and it gives you the option of choice.

     Cheers,

    Alex

Couldn't agree more Bruce. I posted a request to trade in the out-of-tunes for something nicer but heard nothing back.[:O] Must assume that VSL were busy preparing the Silent Stage to accommodate 20 violinists.

I'm confident that the sus-non-vib update will be well worth the wait.[;)]

Yeah, I'm in agreement with this as well. I haven't found use for the out of tune arts yet. I like the idea, but they sound too out of tune for my likes. Anyway, I would find much use for a non vib app patch. Actually, I would welcome any additional app string patches as that has become my main lib used in-conjunction with chamber and solo strings. I hardly ever use the regular orch strings anymore.
