  • VE Midi Issue

Greetings, New VSL user here. First off, these libraries and tools are amazing. I feel I can come a large step closer to realizing compositions as I intend rather then feeling constrained - less compromise :)

Anyhow, onto the issue I am experiencing.

    Sequencer: Sonar 5
Dual Core PC, nothing mind blowing..
VI/VE: Latest versions (downloaded from the site about 2 days ago)

When I start VE as a VST Midi becomes unresponsive when I focus on the ensemble window. Even if I click on VI's keyboard I get no response. If I refocus on my sequencer any notes that I had played while focused on VE sound off simultaneously. When focused on the sequencer I can play and all is well, save for the fact that keyswitches and CC1(and possibly other continuous events, haven't tried) do not seem to be registering with VE.

If I run VE in standalone - no issues. If I load up the VI VST within Sonar, works great.

    Any advice?

    Cheers,
    Dave

    1. VE sort of runs outside of the sequencer, even  when used as a plugin, so it's quite possible that you won't get MIDI input, depending on how you set your preferences.#
    2. You are probably playing your keyswitches in the wrong octave. Middle C is C4.
    3. Make sure you use the MIDI learn fuction to tell VE what CC you want to use

  • Hi Dave

    Welcome in the VSL-World!

Even if your question is not "What's the difference between VI and VE" read about this matter as well. It could be a help.

  • Problem Solved!

Its turns out that it was an audio setting in Sonar that I had set 'Share Audio with other Applications'. Unchecked that and restarted and all is well :) *sigh*

    Thanks for the replies guys.

Beat, love your tutorials. I've been using samples for quite some time now. However the big difference for me is that I'm used to EWQL and some ProjectSAM products that are wet out of the box (Which is superb at first, but eventually constraining in my opinion). So I wouldn't be suprised if I find myself purchasing your tuts at some point down the road.

    Cheers,
    Dave
