  • VI SE keeps losing track of content and/or licenses (OS 10.56)

Hi All, Have a most frustrating situation. Maybe one of you knows a quick fix. From time to time my VI SE can't find it's data files (I think) I try refreshing the path with the Directory Manager and restarting, as has been suggested elsewhere on this forum, but to no avail. I take that back, it did seem to work and Standalone did launch, but only once and then it was back to it's misbehaving. Now the VI Standalone GUI will not even appear. It shows up in the dock but nothing else happens.

Vienna Ensemble 2.0 will launch, but gets stuck saying "scanning content files"

All had been working great until this morning.

Any ideas? I'm dead in the water

  • This advice just appeared on another thread, do you think this applies to my issues?

an additional approach to fix this issue is a clean re-install of VI / VE

    - reboot, then run viennaUninstall from applications

    - delete all receipts for Vienna, the related .pkg files from /Library/Receipts/

    - trash the preference files if existing from /Library/Preferences/

    com.vsl.vsldirs1.plist, com.vsl.vslfrontend.plist, com.vsl.appPresets.plist

    - empty your computer's trash, reboot, repair permissions on the system volume

    - now re-install Vienna Instruments and/or Vienna Ensemble software

(download and use the latest version for intel)

    - for security repair permissions again

    - launch directory manager and add the locations where your sample content resides

(easiest method using drag & drop from a finder window)

  • Yes, that´s worth a try. Make also sure that <put harddisks to sleep> is deactivated in your System preferences. That is the main reason why VI looses its content paths.

  • I've got a similar problem. I use VE3 on a dedicated slave. It starts up and works fine for a couple of hours, but then, sometimes when I try to add another instrument, it's stuck forever on "scanning content files". I have to force-quit VE3. When I restart VE3 (or VI Standalone), it's still stuck on "scanning content files". When I reboot the slave, everything is fine again.

Slave: Mac Mini Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.26 GHz, 4 GB RAM; Mac OS 10.5.6; samples on a LaCie 1TB FireWire disk (option "put hard disk to sleep" is desactivated, of course), VE3 build 3452, LCC 1.9.20.1 -- everything quite freshly installed.

    Master: PowerMac G5 4 x 2.5 GHz, 6.5 GB RAM; Mac OS 10.4.11; Digital Performer 5.13; VE3 build 3238.

I used to use VE3 build 3238 on a MacBook Pro as a slave, where it always worked just fine.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance for your help!

  • Dear Pierre Funck,

LCC 1.9.20.1 sounds alarming. I´d suggest to update your software components to the latest versions:

    <e-licenser - Licence Control Center (v. 5.4.14.2)>:

    http://www.elicenser.net/en/latest_downloads.html

    and

    <Vienna Instruments Software 2.0.3452 (Mac OS X 10.4, 10.5, 32 bit, UB)>:

    http://vsl.co.at/en/68/428/514/210.htm

    <Vienna Ensemble Software 3.0.3452 (Mac OS X 10.4, 10.5, 32 bit, UB)>:

    http://vsl.co.at/en/68/428/516/212.htm

    /Regards,

  •  i'd like to add:

symcrosoft LCC _installer_ has a different version numbering than LCC application (1.9.20.1 is indeed current)

hot hint: reboot before installing / updating something, run permission repair after.

10.5.6 is known for troubles with USB ports (IMO it was not very clever to implement prevention of jailbreak for iPhone into 10.5.6)

My hard disk is connected via FireWire 800, so that's not the problem... do you think that the USB port might lose the connection to the dongle? Is this USB problem resolved in 10.5.7?

    Cheers, Pitt

  • Hi Pierre,

In fact, we indeed had to encounter many an issue, including loosing USB connection to the Vienna Key, under MacOS 10.5.6, but these problems seem to have been resolved with 10.5.7. Neither have I experienced them myself anymore, nor have I got any reports about them from users having updated their OS as of today.

Please note that this only reflects my personal experiences and is in no way a recommendation to update your current operating system, especially if you are in the middle of a project!

    Best, Marnix

  • OK, thanks, so I'll eventually upgrade to 10.5.7! (Not right now, though, since I *am* in the middle of a project...)

    Cheers, Pitt
