    Has anyone converted and used the VSL library with NI Kontakt? I need an alternative when working in Pro Tools 6.1/OSX. Any information on converting (EXS or Giga), using and performance (streaming voices) on a G5 would be extremely helpful.

    Yes. I can't speak to the G5, but 80% or better of VSL will import into Kontakt including the Performance Set.

    I've kind of reached the end of my patience wwith Kontakt. I use it and like it - to a point - but really as a very limited overflow resource when the giga machines max out. With NI's latest "upgrade" I'm now having difficulty with large samples and the streaming is still buggy. A quick look through the East West forum will give a clear impression of the frustration level for those trying to do orchestral work in the EWQLSO Kompakt (almost the same as Kontakt) format. Sure, NI says they will get all this stuff fixed, but their "we'll get it done any day now" script is tired. Even though Giga has taken so much flak over the years, I have seen nothing (except for perhaps EXS which I don't use) that will do the job to the same extent. Kontakt will be just fine for a few instruments, just don't expect miracles...

    The problems with Kompakt and Kontakt are on Macs. They work fine on Windows machines.

    Since Martin says he only uses Kontakt when Giga max out, I assume he's a PC user.

    Strange, I don't have that much problem with Kontakt PC.

    It is true that Giga has the best HD streaming ability so far (with that little latency), but it's really hard to run it along with Stylus, Atmosphere, Trilogy and other VSTis at the same time.

    I'm converting my just-received VSL Solo Strings on the other PC. Using CDXtract 4.1, from Giga to Kontakt. Last week I converted the VSL Overdrive in the same way and found that everything worked fine except the layered instruments. The layers were simply mixed together.

    [:O]ops: Sorry guys - I usually post first thing in the morning when i'm sleepy and completely overlooked you PC Kontakt users. Happy to hear things are working for you. I use GigaStudio on dedicated PCs, and Kontakt on a mac through DP4 in OSX. All that being said, NI just posted OSX upgrades on their site yesterday. I started using the Bosendorfer 290 plugin (like being in heaven) for about an hour at the end of the day yesterday. I'm not sure to what extent the new DFD extension is an improvement but things feel a little more solid initially. Will see if any benefits tranlate to VSL today.
