  • Snow Leopard

    Hi all,

This is a question for all the technofolk out there. As release of Snow Leopard looks likely to be released during the summer of this year, what will this mean in terms of performance with VSL?

I currently use SE alongside other librarys with Logic on my Mac Pro, and although things run OK, its far from smooth.

Will the advent of Snow Leopard make a real big difference?

    Thanks

    Joe

  • I can't give you any insights into Snow Leopard as I'm not involved in development. But I can say that I stopped using Logic just after Christmas when I tried ProTools LE. I found ProTools LE version 8 to very similar to Logic so the learning curve was not at all steep.

On my MacPro  running ProTools 8 the software boots faster, crashes less often and I find that Digidesign make updates more regularly available than Apple. (Although stability has never been a problem.)

I appreciate this doesn't answer your question but I suggest that the real problem is Logic and Apple's lack of attentiveness to its customers.

  • Don't want to start a big controversy here, but there are other important factors to consider.

There's usually an interminable wait for PT to become compatible with every major Mac OS and hardware upgrade, whereas Logic is always ready to go as soon as new Macs and operating systems are shipped. AU is also much more powerful than RTAS, and Logic Pro's freeze function allows a person to do a lot more with an equivalent processor/memory configuration. For a VI and synth plug-in power user, I don't think there's much of a contest.

For people to help, I think you'll need to give details of your system and exactly what types of problems you're having.
