  • General question EQ/Limiter/Compressor/etc.

I'm very new to the world of "post-production" - mixing, EQ'ing, using effects such as limiters, compressors, exciters (as included in the Vienna Suite). My background is that of an live orchestral musician (violinist/violist) so except for adjusting my own sound "on the fly" as I play, there isn't much I can do except listen to the other players. -)

I've been looking for "before and after" audio examples of using the above effects. I've been doing a lot of reading about what can be done with EQs for instance (removing unwanted sound/cleaning up a mix/etc.) but it would really help to actually *hear* things before and after the effect(s) are applied.

Are there any websites with examples of this sort of thing?

    Thanks for any help!

  • Hi Larry,

Have you taken a look at the video's showcasing Vienna Suite on the Vienna website? They can be found here: http://vsl.co.at/en/211/1343/1348/1594/1245.vsl

They are quite helpful to show you a good visual and audio example of what these effects can do for your instruments!

  • Austin,

Yes, I've gone through the Vienna Suite  (VS) videos; they're very helpful, and I'll be watching them a few more times. -)  I recently got the VS demo and have been working with the various plugins, trying to best understand what they can do for me.  The Presets are helpful and interesting.

I'm just looking for more audio examples, especially where the difference between the 'before' and 'after' versions is apparent, so I can see what these types of plugins can do for me.

I'm OK with the reverb. It's like saying, "We sound better in *that* room; let's go over there to rehearse." -)
