  • Best to host samples on external drive?

Question for trying to optimize performance with my iMac (24" 2.8ghz with 4gb of Ram using Logic 8), should I host my VSL SE library samples on a Firewire 400 drive or from my internal drive?

  • Yes.

  • I couldn't resist giving you such a non descriptive answer.  I was going for the shortest post of all time for myself [:D].

Always put your samples on a seperate drive from your DAW/system drive.  So the answer would be an external drive is the best approach for you.

  • Yeah, I was thinking so. It seemed that that input and output speed of the firewire drive would be enough for the audio samples and would allow using both internal for OS and Logic and External for samples.

I guess I'll give it a try and see if I can tell if their is a difference.

    Thanks

  •  be aware firewire drives and firewire audio devices often collide if daisychaned or even just using the same bus - this is a driver issue with some devices.

so if you run audio over firewire maybe purchese an external drive which has also USB2 to have analternative connection type available in case you run into troubles.
