  • LAN Configuration for PC Slave

    I'm getting ready to build a PC slave for VE3 to take some of the load off of my Mac pro and I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to all things networking so I'm looking for a bit of clarification on the slave-master configuration.  I'm planning on using an Asus P6T board that has built in Gigabit ethernet and I'm wondering what the best physical LAN configuration is for VE3.  Right now I have my Mac pro connected to a 10/100 router so should I get a gigabit router or connect the PC directly to the 2nd ethernet port on the Mac and just get a basic ethernet card for the PC to connect to the internet with?

  •  routers with bult-in gigibit switch tend to be not of the best quality ....

    i would do the latter (connect mac and PC directly over gigabit, adding a network card for internet to the PC)

    alternative solution: enable internet connection sharing on the macPro (PC connects to MacPro, MacPro routes internet traffic to the router, router connects to internet)

    you might need help on setting IP ranges and other network settings correctly though.

  • Hi Guys,

    Excuse the additional question;
    but why not go for a P6T deluxe mobo with 2 ethernet ports?

    yeah - but what if you already have one with only one port?

    btw it is not the worst idea to keep an audio workstation off from internet, otherwise you should run an AV app, what you should avois on a DAW on the other hand,

    while we're here ... java exploit for safari & firefox on OS X still not fixed (can cause critical drive-by downloads) though i rally can't agree on a full disclosure in this case ...
