• Cembalom

Hi- is anyone using a cembalom sample which they can recommend ?

    Kay.

  • I made one, around the year 1991, for the legendary Austrian Sound Library (ASL) - available in Ensoniq EPS 16+ format only. The so-called "Hackbrett" consisted of about 20 individual samples (a total of about 500 KB). I think it's still available from Chicken Systems.

  • Dietz, a Hackbrett is not a Cimbalom, although it is similarely played. But I'm sure you know that.

  • By the way I wonder if anyone remembers the film that used a cymbalon (as it was spelled) in a prominent part.   A score by the great Miklos Rosza in "The Power"  which even used a closeup on it being played.  That is a very good film that absolutely no one in the world but me seems to know about. Directed by Byron Haskin who also did the original War of the Worlds.

;-D ... I was waiting for this reply. The jury is still out on that, as there _are_ local differences, but the instrument itself is considered to be more or less the same: -> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hammered_Dulcimer#Names_for_the_hammered_dulcimer_in_different_countries

... no, I won't raise a quarrel with you on this topic ;-)

  • Yes, the hammered dulcimer is locally called Cimbalon, as well.

But I guess the thread starter was talking of a "Concert hammered dulcimer", as it is described here:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cimbalon

That's something different than a Hackbrett...

    But I do. 😉

  • OK - then you will have to digest the fact that this is a Hackbrett in its ultimate shape. [Y]

  • Hmmmmmm, that tastes yummie....!!

  •  You have a cymbalom in best sevice Akai Cd rom : World colors... Cheers !

  • The best one i've encountered is part of Quantum leap Gypsy, though the Library is expensive and the rest of the instruments are so-so..Next after that would be Bolder sounds dulcimer and cimbalom library and more reasonably priced too.

  • Thanks for all the answers.  I actually like the Boulder Sounds one, and the Bavarian Zither as well. They both suit my pocket at the moment too.
