  • Last 2 VI update is unstable under Logic 8/9

     Hi

I have notice the last 2 update of VI are really unstable under Logic 8/9 (updates Feb and July)

I went back to the version before (Update 3173 - Apr 2008) and have no problem.

The "unstable" here is either quit unexpect or loud pop at the start of the track

    Is anybody notice the same?

Also, next VI update, PLEASE! bring back the Instrument Menu to be memorize after the VI close (Open VI again will have the same instrument that loaded in browser)

    Thanks

    Sonny

  • Hi Sonny!

    Same problem here.

    Unstable under Logic 8.

The new VE 3 network version ( PC Slaved) is not running well with logic 8.

Under Digital Performer 5,13 the new VE 3 is running fine!

    Regards

  • Hi everybody,

interesting. We haven´t found these problems in our test procedures so for with the Vienna Instruments.

Sonny, how often does it happen that the Vienna Instruments quit? Is this true for the Vienna Ensemble on your machine as well? Are you also using the latest version?

Jotaresende, what is the difference between the performance of VE 3 with Logic 8 and DP 5?

The more details we can get, the more we know where to look!

    Thanks in advance,

    Paul

  • Ever since I updated to the newest version the license control center loses the licenses again, the interface locks up 50% of the time and I have to force quit Logic 8 on my MacBook Pro.  I haven't truely had a stable interface in so long I don't remember.

I just gave up on going back and forth between versions.  The last few have all had issues.  I just let things crash and reboot until it finally works for me.  Usually after 2-4 times of trying it works for the day.  I have repaired permissions, re-installed OS X etc.  It is only the VI interface that does these things so I am not willing to blame it on anything else anymore.  Just hoping for some stability on the next version.  Kontakt, EXS, Sibelius, Logic, Pianoteq etc all run without any problems until I start using the VI interface.

I know you all will figure it out eventually so I haven't totally lost hope.

  • Hi,

I can report a Logic 9 crash when using VI (latest version) the session also had VE active. Latest Apple OS on a MacPro 32GB of RAM - the loaded RAM was well within the limits. The crash happened on hitting play.

Will report further if further crashes.

  •  Hi Paul and all users in this thread.

I am using VI in both Logic 8 and 9, MacPro with 20GB Ram, OS10.5.7...

I always install newest VI and Ensembles 2 both new release together (they are both out at the same time most of the time)

But I never use Vienna Ensembles.

With the newset VI version, I experience crashes from: A- Open the Plug In Window for loading sound or edit, B/ Load the sounds from Track Preset under Logic. Note that the crash happen in random but most of the time - at beginning of the song in process (if the song go well, it'll be ok) and 1 thing I notice, the crash happen more often if I load NEWER library such as Chamber String II or Solo String II. Symtoms of the crash: I load the track/sound or open VI Window, I get color beach ball spinning and Logic either crarsh or freeze.

The previous Version besides crashes, I also experience loud pop/cracking sound when I hit the 1st note... the problem will be obvious if using VI with Vienna Suite Plug-ins.

Talking about Vienna Suite, I found many bugs, reported some but Martin or Vienna staff never response so I got tired and not bother anymore. Hope I don't get the same treatment in this problem.

    Best Regards

    Sonny

PS: I am now using VI release #3173 (April 2008) I don't have problem with Logic 8 and 9 - Of course I prefer newer version with the request to have the Sound browser memorize back (This thing happen in version 1 and I love it, why dissapear in version 2?)

  • Working with VI on Logic 8.0.2 on OSX 10.5.7 - the latest build works alright but it takes much longer to load an empty Instrument then it did on OSX 10.4.11 - besides that no crashes, also VE3 works fine.

  • Hi Paul!

My master Computer is Power MAc G5 Dual 2.0 , 3.5 gig Ram. My slave (PC) is Quad Core, 4 gig Ram and 2 Sata HD.One HD run Vienna SE only.

Logic can't run the same VE3 two Instances that run just fine using DP 5.13.

When I try to open the same VE3 Sets under Logic, VE3 quit in my Slaved PC and sometimes quit Logic 8.

When I try to open under DP I can run the session with the same Sounds.

I don't know what is the problem with VE3 Network new version and Logic 8.

I unload some patches in VE3 and then it runs under Logic.

    Thanks

  • Just installed the 2.0.3 update for Vienna Instruments on my 8 Core Mac and not only does it crash unexpectedly, but it can only find my Extended Library of Appassionata samples, not the reg articulations that are all installed!

  • Hi Paul - i sent you another report last night.  It happened again after uninstalling and reinstalling the new LCC and VSL software a few times and getting some directions from Maya Vinson.  Standalone crashing or just bouncing and getting wheel of death.  Then a white screen in the middle of my monitor with a wheel of death in there too.  Only way to get rid of that is to restart computer.

I have not had these problems with any previous VSL update and it happens whether or not i'm using it as a plug in Logic 9 or as a standalone.

  • Well this might not be everyone elses problem but for me I have not had one issue in 2 days.  The problem for me was the USB again.  For some reason when I updated at some point to the newer LLC and VI/VE interfaces it stopped working in the USB hub again.  I haven't done any other updates (OS X etc).

I got out my power cord for my controller, swapped my USB key with the controller (put the controller on the hub) and everythings working great.

Craig - I had all the same issues you're talking about.  Is your Vienna Key on a USB Hb?  If so take it off.

    Hope that helps someone.

  • Hi Paul, I have not purchased VE yet. I need some help though. I use Sonar Cakewalk Pro Edition. 1.Does VE work well with Sonar? 2.Do I need at least 4GB RAM? 3.And is the Intel Duo 2 Core required? Sorry for so many questions. As you can see I am new at this and need some help. Thank You, LS

    Hi LS,

    and welcome [:)]

Of course our software works with Sonar, just insert the Vienna Instruments / Vienna Ensemble as a VST instrument.

You don´t necessarily need 4 GB of RAM, but it will help. I´d say, 2 GB is the minimum for a good workflow.

Intel Core 2 Duo is not required, but of course you will get a better performance.

Our system requirements, for the Special Edition, just as an example, can be found here.

    Best,

    Paul

  • I spoke to soon.  I am getting the spinning ball of death nonstop now.  I can't even run the plug-ins at all now.  I have uninstalled, re-installed 2 different versions, repaired permissions about 10 times, rebooted at least 15 times during all the rebuilding etc.  Deleted all my custom folders, re-ran directory manager and rebuilt everything.  Stand alone launches but I can't load instruments into it.  It freeze up and the center of the VI window spins endlessly during loading a patch.  Logic gets the ball of death.

  • Jumping into the fray here: I've been testing a round of updates for the past 2 weeks before pulling the trigger on my [working & stable] installation.  To be specific, I cloned my OS drive running 10.5.6, Logic 8.0.2, ViennaInsts 2.0-3238 then updated the clone to 10.5.7 & Logic 9.0.  I'm running these tests while booting from the clone.<p>

I immediately tested my scoring template which contains 8 instances of Vienna player (Appassionata Stgs).  I had the same blank white screen and weird GUI issues as some of you described.  So I tried Vienna Standalone - crash city.<p>

So I grabbed the 2.0-3710 update and the latest LCC.  It "sort of" works, although it takes MINUTES to boot even the standalone version; and in Logic it crackles & pops at random, like my buffers are set too low (it works fine in my previous install at 128).<p>

So, things are definitely strange right now.  Logic 9 has some issues too, but all my other 3rd party plugs work fine there - it's just VSL that's giving me trouble.  I don't have any crash logs or I would send them...
