  • Vienna Ensemble 3 with Pro-Tools 8 HD

    Hi

I am trying to use Vienna Ensemble 3.0 with Pro-Tools HD 8.0. Here is my setup :

PC running XP64, Vienna Ensemble Pro

    Mac Pro, 8 core, Pro-Tools 8.0 HD1

So I only have 1 Vienna Ensemble plugin instantiated in Pro-Tools HD which opens up a vienna ensemble on the PC. But when I play a single held note it pops and crackles. This seems to decrease when I lower the buffer setting in the vienna ensemble plugin to 1 then 0. But the CPU usage greatly increases.

I am a bit worried that when I add more instruments and then another Vienna Ensemble I will get more pops and crackles.

    Any suggestions?

  • Hi

I am having real problems with VE and Pro-Tools HD 8.0 cs3.

As mentioned before I am running Pro-Tools 8 HD on my mac with 3 VE's inserted. These are opened on my PC slave.

I am getting clicks and pops when running with the buffer at 2x, but they seem to lessen when I lower the buffer to zero or 1.

Can you tell me why this is?

  • Simsy -

Did you ever get this issue resolved?  I have had quite inexplicable problems with ProTools HD and VE, and after searching these posts, I have seen several comments similar to yours that remain unanswered.  I wonder if the VSL guys realize how huge the ProTools consumer base is in the US.  Leaving a great number of the most serious of music professionals in this country unsupported is a pretty lousy business move, IMHO.  Hopefully you solved this on your own, in which case I REALLY hope you post a follow-up.  If not, Christian, Paul - Get with the program!  (Pun intended!)  This is just not acceptable considering the performance on other platforms.

  • Same here. MAJOR problems running VE Pro with Protools 8.0.1 (HD2 Running on a mac Quad 3Ghz with 8GB Ram).

After spending the whole day yesterday, tweacking settings (in both PT and VE) to try and get rid of the clicks, I came back this morning only to find out - VE Pro wont launch as plug-in from Protools.

Any attempt even launching the plug - would cause Protools to crash imeiatly.

I've trashed all prefs digi databases... still no go.

    Back to Bidule...

  • Perhaps you are trying to run too many channels in your connector plugin. Check your VE Pro server preferences and lower the midi and audio ports.

If that does not help, send a support email to support@vsl.co.at

  • OK. Will send a report right now.

But this is not the case of too many channels. the plug in (Vienna Ensemble Pro) wont launch at all. even on an empty setup.

I had to once again un-install. repair permissions. and install again (just to get it in to launch).

I still get glitches and hanged midi notes...

  • I'm having the exact same problem...I've been testing VE-Pro all day and no matter what setting i use, i get craks, pops and midi drop out every once in a while. When i close my session and reopen it, most of the time VE-Pro won't launch at all and the few times that it manage to launch, there's a message saying it can't find the patches so you end up with an empty set up. Man, too bad, as i was getting all excited about this product.

  • Hello vudoo,

please provide us with your details and send a mail to support (at) vsl (dot) co (dot) at, we´ll definitely look into this. And we´re quick.

    Best,

Posting my reply here also, for reference.

We don't offer an RTAS plugin for PC (yet), and I will not vouch for performance when used with any kind of wrapper.

As we have noticed - the Macbook Pro's have a problem with their networking hardware. You have to turn the airport off - otherwise you will run into various stalls in the network streams.

Don't use zero-latency over network. The "Two buffers" mode is recommended. Using zero-latency over network does not make much sense. It will basically add the slave's processing time plus the network latency in the hosts process() call, blocking all further audio graph processing until the slave has finished processing and the data is returned.
