  • Can you explain a bit more : MIR, VE PRO, VE 64 MAC OS X, Vienna Suite

    Hello VSL

Sorry a LOT of questions :

Currently I have a MAC Pro 3 Ghz 13 GB , the project I have been working on are running with no problem on my MAC pro (less of half CPU), but I cannot load all the articulations due to memory limit

I wanted to build a full orchestral template on my MAC pro, but due to 10.5 I could not

Now that 10.6 is out I could do it

I also have a G5 2x2 that I dont use but that could be used to offload my Mac Pro

I was waiting to see if with VE 64 bit I could load all my articulations  before I buy VE Pro to put it on my G5

I have tried to figure out how MIR works with VE Pro, is MIR a Plug-in of VE PRO ?

I have watch the Video of MIR,  Vienna Suite and VE 3

I AM STILL A BIT LOST

Can you use Vienna Suite plug-in in MIR ?

When can we expect a MAC OS X 10.6 MIR ?

Did you try MIR with Virtual Box and Window 7 on MAC OS X ?

When VE 64 bit will be out ? I would like to try it before buying VE Pro, is it possible ?

Is there is a trial version of VE pro that I could use as a Local host ?

Can you give us the list of articulations in the Epic orchestra ?

Why do I need the Vienna Suite if I have Logic that as also a convolution reverb ?

Why do I need MIR if I have the Vienna Suite ?

Why do I need MIR if I have Logic that as also a convolution reverb ?

It will be great if you could add a forum in French on VSL site

that will help your French client that does not speak fully English, Marnix could respond [:D]

    Best

    same answer as above

    hth, christian

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
  • Cyril, there is no point in putting VE Pro on your G5, because it is Intel only.

If you read the product page for VE 3 / VE PRO

    It says :

    • PC Intel/AMD with Windows XP/VISTA 32 and 64-bit versions (Core 2 Duo/Xeon recommended) or
    • Apple G5 or Intel Core 2 Duo/Xeon with Mac OS X 10.4 or higher

Paul and Christian, can you confirm ?

  • Hello Christian

If I understand VE is included in MIR

    Many thanks for your answer

The product page does say it is for Apple G5, but that's not the product page for VE Pro, it's not even published.  That's the VE3 page.  So yes, VE3 supports G5, but no where does it say VE Pro supports G5.

  • hi cyril - how are you? haven't crossed words in a while. do you mind if i jump on this thread with you? it's along the lines of questions i wanted to ask as well.

i am looking for a single computer solution. i am interested in VE pro to use on the same machine as my DAW. currently doing that job is plogue and i am using loopback to my interface to pipe the audio back to logic. after many headaches i have settled on something reliable, but it could be improved. eg latency in this setup is not wonderful.

    1. can i use VE pro in this way - on the same computer as the DAW?

    2. how does VE provide audio outputs over LAN or in my case internally? how do they show up in logic?

    3. likewise, midi?

    4. with rewire, you have the possibility of detecting tempo from the DAW. does this happen in VE pro? so any loops residing in a plug-in will set to the current DAW tempo?

  • Dr. Stevenson, I presume.

Have you seen the Vienna Ensemble 3 video?

    http://vsl.co.at/en/211/1343/1348/1594/1245.vsl

I'm still learning this too. With VE 2, I figured out the whole Jack / stand-alone / MIDI routing thing. But I am losing tolerance for those work-arounds, no matter the RAM benefits. The chief kludge for me is the inability to double-click something in Logic and see what I'm hearing immediately. I'm not going to hunt down one cell within one of sixteen instruments among 6 stand-alone VE instances.

So perhaps VE 3 PRO is here to save us both. Like you, I want a single computer. After several years winnowing down a workstation, I can't bring myself to start adding computers again. We should give 64-bit VE Pro a shot before we give up the single computer theory.

    1. Yes. It's mentioned in the video. Launch Vienna Ensemble SERVICE on the same computer hosting your DAW.

    2. I can't speak for LAN and audio outputs (but the video covers this too). Internally, it's just wonderful. You simply load a software instrument (channel strip) with VE 3. It finds the VE Service on the same computer, referenced as "localhost," and opens its own window, unique to that channel strip.

I'm still distracted by the fact that when one VE is open, I think they're all open, and we are left to sort through the redundant mess. Some user error is making it worse, I suspect.  But from the plug-in, if you click the rectangle (show window), the appropriate window will be topped.

Also, there's a note in VE 3 PRO mentioning the redundant screens. Perhaps this is the same issue I'm facing, to be fixed. Also, it mentions a clearer marking of each instance. Right now, the user sees an unhelpful list of identical version titles and numbers.

    3.  And this seems best of all. Internally, there is are no extra MIDI hook-ups. VE 3 is read directly from Logic, per the channel strip. Just make sure the VE 3's instrument settings (port and channel, assignable per instrument) agree with the MIDI that the channel strip is receiving

    4. Alas, I know nothing of tempo. I'm not aware of any VSL product that listens to a BPM tempo.
