  • VE PRO CONFUSED will VEPRO benefit me?

Hi I am following the posts about the excited release soon of VEPRO however it's been mentioned that it will benefit networking computers, does that mean for a guy like me who works with one computer only MAC PRO 8 core it is of no benefit and just stick to VE2, a little confused could someone enlighten me please... thankyou.

  • VE Pro is the ONLY version of VE that will host instruments and plugins that are NOT made by VSL. That's one huge difference there. There are other differences I'm sure but I couldn't say exactly what they are.

  • Indeed .. I can't wait for this .. I can finally host my EW library again on my G5 .. since it won't work on my Intel Macs. That's a huge plus since I rather like some of the FX and percussion groups it offers. Also if the 3.7 gig Barrier is relieved with VE Pro then that means finally the full 8 gig can be utilized to host many more instruments than was previously possible.

    Very Exciting.

  •  OK, a few advantages of VE Pro over VE2 and VE3:

    1. It can host other sample players. However, it is the sample player developer's responsibility to make sure that it works with VE Pro; not the other way round. if you have a particular product in mind, hassle the developer to make sure that they are going to support VE Pro.
    2. Global optimise. This means that you only have to make a few clicks to optimise your whole arrangements. For me that means a saving of over 200 mouse clicks!
    3. Preserve. This means that you can change projects without having to load your template again. This is huge for me, giving a saving of half an hour each time. This is also of benefit to users on one computer, as it works the same as over a network.
    4. It will be 64bit on OSX, even if your sequencer is not 64bit (all of them......!)

One caveat. So far it is not being developed for PPC, so those people who are thinking that they can use it on their G5s, forget it. Unless VSL changes its collective mind. [;)]

If that's the final decision then that's VERY disappointing news. (at least PPC Host support would have been something)

  • Intel only???

    I can't believe.

I purchased VE3 ( VE3 Pro) to use with my slaved Windows XP and Run ( VE3 Pro) inside DP on my PPC G5 .

    Very frustrating ,

  •  Maybe contact support to see if you can sell your licence to someone else.

  • DG points out exactly the 4 biggest reasons for having this product for most people.  Adding the network feature to that list makes it the ultimate to have right now on the market for me.  I simply cannot WAIT to be able to have a one button push for "learn" mode.  Talk about an unbelievable memory saver, and time saver.  The other thing is preserve mode, dear god this will save me so much time because I often do a save as and have two running copies of my project that I flip back and forth from.

Example, I am working on project 1 and I like the patches used, most midi data is recorded and done and the piece is really coming to life.  Then I save it as project 1 reverb testing.  At this point I go manipulate all kinds of parameters and play with the mix etc in this new environment without screwing up my perfect base line project.  After I find the right mix, I apply it piece by piece to my original project.  It works for me and I will be so happy to be able to tab back and forth without waiting 5 minutes for a patch reload.

I am not speaking on behalf of VSL here but for those of you on PPC why don't you try it out first before jumping to conclusions it won't work?  It may not be supported but Logic 9 also said (no way in hell will we run on a G5) and sure enough, thousands are doing it.  If it works, I just wouldn't suggest doing any updates to it unless you're protected by a backup.  You might get lucky who knows.

  • Are there any performance differences in using VE vs. several VI instances in the host?

I currently use Cubase 5 whereone instrument channel is one VI instance. Why would one use VE? What are the benefits/differences?

    Thanks

If you are running lots of VI's it's the only way to go for organizing all those players. Otherwise you have VI players all over your desktop and are clicking around all the time. There are numerous other features such as routing, panning, effects inserts. It's a very elegant host solution.

  • Yes, but I can do that in cubase can I not? Or are you refering to several instances of VE as well? I am a bit confused here.

    Thanks for your reply

  • Yes you can but if you load 16 VI players (or twice that or more) than you have to constantly open and close them to get at them. With VE you just open it and then can scroll  up and down with all the players held perfectly in place. It saves tons of time and hassle. If you can look at a tutorial here that shows the interface you will see the obvious benefits.

  • c'mon guys! you can't be serious!!! I only bought the VE 3 a few days ago, because i wanted to host some 3rd party plug ins and a part of my symphonic cube on a slave G5 PPC with the VE-Pro upgrade. your VE-Pro preview page says nothing(!!!) about "intel only". it's not acceptable! you guys have to work it out!

  • So, it will not work on PCs at all? If it will, will it run on AMD, too?

Of course it works on PCs, it's  only the old legacy Macs that can't run it.

  • Thanks. I was getting worried when someone said "Intel only" and MAC.

Vista 64 on host and Windows XP 32 on slave. Will this work?
