  • Looking for an really good accordion sample

I know it´s not the best way to talk on a company forum like this about other librarys, but as long as VSL does not offer an accordion library I hope this is gona be ok.

Does any one of you has experiences with the IRCAM Solo instruments accordion or can recommend a really good accordion or bandoneon sample?

I´m lookng for a not too clean rich sound which cn be used for some expressive tango-stuff. The IRCAM stuff sounds ok, but the Demos are not really what I´m looking for. If anyone of you has worked with this sounds I would love to hear it.

(In a perfect world) The sample should blend well with the VSL double-bass and the woodwinds.

    All the best,

    Stephan Kanyar

  • EW Gypsy has a good Bandoneon, I use it for Tango stuff. Unfortunately it comes only with the Play engine which I really hate...

That's what I'm doing with it, check out "und zu entspringen...":

Guitar and Bandoneon is Gypsy, most of the rest is VSL.

  • Hi Mathis,

thank you for your advice. I heard about gipsy but never checked it out.

I like the Bandoneon sample (was "ins licht fruehlingsbodenlicht der moose" also made with it?). I visited the EW side and have to say, that I unfortunately don´t liek the other instruments in the package too much 8of course a question of taste).

So I have to try to listen to some demos of the IRCAM Solo Instruments.

Anyway: Thank you for your help and good luck with your tango project (what is planed to happen with it?).

    All the best,

    Stephan Kanyar

I waited for you to ask... ;-)  no, that's a real Bandoneon.

I hope to get it performed in some concerts next year and have some recording produced.

Please let me hear what you do.

  • In a perfect world the Bandoneon part would have been a sample :-)

I don´t know of the gipsy library really fits my needs. I guess I will go for the IRCAM stuff.

Right now I´m working on a theatre-music for the schauspiel-essen (wrote some accordion parts for it and need them to be produced... I guess I will book a player).

Congratulations for the work with Perceval. His work is really impressive. "Traum Im Herbst" was one oft he most touching theatre impressions I ever had.

If you are in essen in the next 5 or 6 week let me knoe. We can go for a coffee.

    All the ebst,

    Stephan

  • Yes, I hugely enjoy the work with Luk, I'm very happy.

Well, your profile suggests you're living in Munich. As it is very unlikely that I make my way to Essen the next weeks why shouldn't we have a coffee in Munich?

Accordions: Don't forget the PMI Accordions. Still very good. But as you asked specifically for Bandoneon I didn't mention them.

  • I deleted most of my PMI and SamleTekk libraries; just not detailed enough (except for SampleTekk's marimba and renaissance recorders, and PMI's anvils and carillon, which fill some gaps not covered or not covered well by VSL).

For accordions, I highly recommend NUSofting Peti, which is based on FM technology. But you'll have to take some time with it, as it doesn't ship with any presets (at least on the Mac AU version). I made a few of my own for Italian Accordion, Indian Harmonium, etc.

Library-wise, Precisionsound has by far the most varied and detailed accordion samples these days. These have come around in just the last couple of years, so are not all that well-known yet. There is quite a variety of different sounds and styles. Their sale just ended, but they have sales frequently.

On the whole though, I am finding that the non-sample-based NUSofting Peti sits in the mix the best with Vienna Instruments winds, brass, strings, and percussion.

  • Thanks for your reply, mhschmieder. I will check them out. I ordered the IRCAM Solo Instruments (liked the accordion in the demos) and I´m pretty courious how it will work.

Mathis, I don´t live in munich anymore (moved to Berlin three years ago, never changed it on zhis site). Maybe our paths will cross some day. Would be fun.

    All the best,

    Stephan

  • Coincidentally, a brand-new accordion library has been announced today over at KVR, from best Service but the guy responsible is normally associated with Bela D so I don't know what that's about. I didn't see a direct link for more product info.

Anyway, this new library includes eight different types of accordions. It might be just what you're after. It is shipped in Kontakt Player format, so you don't have to own Kontakt already.

  • The demos of the Best Service Accordions sound really good. The Bandoneon is very good. Maybe finally a chance to get rid of the crappy EW Play software.

    Here's the stuff:

  • The Demos sound really good. Anyway, my IRCAm stuff arrived yesterday and I´m pretty happy with it. Need the sound anyway before the 15th of September. Bad timing.

    All the best,

    Stephan

  •  Hi,

I am Eduardo Tarilonte, the producer of Best Service Accordions. As the product has been mentioned, I just wanted to show you a couple of videos which will be available soon in the official web site. They feature how a midi CC controls the bellows like a real accordion.

    Totally out of the box.

    Best,

  • I beta tested Eduardo's Best Service Accordions and can heartily recommend it. Like all of his libraries - Spiritual WInd, Celtic Wind, Sampled Landscape and Retro Flute - it's top notch and I'm sure before long will become the 'go to' accordion library.

I have Gypsy and the PMI library and they pale into insignificance next to Eduardo's product.
