  • Multiple Midi Ports?

Searched and read the manual, I don't want to tie up space here with a basic question but I think I'm missing something as simple as it is:

Using VEPro with DP6, as a plug in. I have one VEPRo instance activated (and called up in DP as a plugin (DP Instrument track)), 64bit mode, 8 midi ports activated in the preferences.

However when I create a midi track in DP and assign a midi channel to VEPro, I'm only given a choice of 16 VEPro midi channels. I thought I'd see 8 VEPro banks to choose from, but only one. How do I access the 8 midi banks as per my preferences?

  • If you are using he AU version off VE Pro you can't have more than one MIDI port per instance, AFAIK.

  • Thanks, I was dreading it might be something as basic as that. Sure I just keep adding more instances. But the huge number of possible midi channels (via multiple ports as can be set up in preferences) per instance seems glaringly cut short by this limitation. There's a supersized machine running but I can only use a fraction of it per instance because it's an AU plug in.

I might try using it standalone instead. I was hoping to have all the instruments in one instance to have them all on the same mixer type window (User Interface of an instance of VEPro) instead of switching between multiple windows not to mention streamlining everything else like audio channels, auxes etc also

  • That's the first advantage I've heard of using the RTAS version over the AU version.

Yes, VST doesn't have this limitation either.

  • Wow! AU users like me are really missing out then!

Anyway to VST "wrapper" this thing?!

I'll try standalone (btw I'm using this on ONE mac with the sequencer). But I was looking forward to midichannel / audio channel flexibility. Standalone VE2 required me (with my setup) to do a physically cabled adat loop-back with my motu 2408, restricting it to 4 stereo channels of audio ONLY.

I'm guessing standalone VEPro on the same machine as the sequencer will be the same but I'm about to find out!

  • Correction: VST3 and RTAS support multiple MIDI ports. VST and AU unfortunately do not.

  • Rob, I still think you'll be better off with using a few instances, rather than a standalone. Regarding the AU thing, I suggest that you contact Apple. Not that it will do much good, I suspect.

  • That's really grim. Im using 23 ports in my 8Gb setup. I'll have to go back to using MOL instead.

  • You can split that over 2 instances as well. MoL is somewhat of a suboptimal solution.
