  • VE-pro audio crackling and midi drop out

I just d/l VE-Pro demo to try out on my set up. Computer 1 ( Master ): HP workstation ( Digi approved ), Windows XP 32 bits, ProTools 8 ( HD 3 ) Computer 2 ( Slave ) : Macbook Pro Both are connected to a switcher and the network is working fine as i've been running MOL ( Midi Over Lan ) for a while without any problems. I've followed all the instructions for installation, copy protection. I'm getting pops in the audio and Midi drop outs all over the place, basically totally useless....can this be the wrapper from FXpansion since there's no RTAS version available for ProTools users who are on PC. Thanks.

  • Hi vudoo.

that might well be the case. RTAS on Windows is not supported, and wrappers have not been tested so far.

    Best,

  • Paul, Thanks for the reply. Will RTAS on windows be available soon ???

  •  Is you network gigabit?  If not, you'll get pops.  MOL is just MIDI, so no real test.

  • yes my network is Gigabits....i spent another few hours with VE-Pro, this time using it as RTAS on the Mac side and my PC as slave playing NI kontakt. it's a lot better than when i was using Wrapper on the PC...BUT, still not ready for prime time yet, i would get drop or pop once in a while and overall performance still does not feel very solid. Oh well, back to Plogue Bidule.

  • Hello vudoo,

so far we have not supported RTAS on Windows, but letĀ“s see.... If thereĀ“s a big demand, we might go there.

    Best,

    Paul

Will just double my post here for reference....

We don't offer an RTAS plugin for PC (yet), and I will not vouch for performance when used with any kind of wrapper.

As we have noticed - the Macbook Pro's have a problem with their networking hardware. You have to turn the airport off - otherwise you will run into various stalls in the network streams.

Don't use zero-latency over network. The "Two buffers" mode is recommended. Using zero-latency over network does not make much sense. It will basically add the slave's processing time plus the network latency in the hosts process() call, blocking all further audio graph processing until the slave has finished processing and the data is returned.
