  • Automating VE Pro´s separate instrument´s sends, etc. in L9

Please excuse if that has been discussed but I did a quick search and came up with nothing helpfull - and I´m in a terrible time crunch - and I´m trying to work this out in between projects....

How do I automate vol, pan and sends from Logic on separate instruments of multiple VE PRO instances?

Thank you very much for a short primer....

    All the best, Jochen

  • This is an old problem.  On any multi instrument in Logic the midi volume will lower the volume of the main output, not the individual track.  Therefore the best work-around is to send each instrument in VE Pro out of it's own Aux and do all the volume and panning in Logic on the Aux.    You should avoid using outs 1/2 of VE Pro, then if you accidently nudge a midi volume it won't mess up your mix.

This behavior has been annoying me for years and is one of the main reasons why I prefer Pro Tools to Logic.

If you have a controller with sliders or an expression pedal then you can use the expression slider in the Vienna Instrument for your volume control.  I personally use my expression pedal for velocities, so I assigned cc12 to the Vienna expression.  Panning and send levels you probably won't need to automate as much, but if you do then the above method (dedicated aux) is the best solution I've found.
