  • VE Pro CPU usage 80% when idle, own meters show 5%

I'm running the VE Pro (32) on my MacBook with 4GB of RAM and 10.6.1 as a slave with two instances open. Activity Monitor shows 80% of CPU load while the VE Pro own CPU meters do not show more that 5%. Granted it does not grow much during playing, but obviously the VE Pro own CPU meters cannot be trusted.

    Does anyone have an explanation?

    Thanks!

  • activity monitor will show all CPU usage of a process - even for low-priority threads such as graphics. The VE Pro CPU monitor shows the actual CPU usage by the audio processing thread. If a higher processing load is present, the graphics will get less time to work - and thus lower CPU usage.

Due to Mac OS (actually, Cocoa), there is some more overhead in GUI management compared to Windows, thus giving higher CPU usage for the GUI thread.

  • Thank you for the response!

Am I correct to assume then, that the graphic GUI of VE Pro takes 70% of the total CPU when idle?

    When I quit the VE Pro the CPU usage drops to 10%. 80 - 10 = 70.
