  • MIR - Controlling Wet Dry Mix Param

    Hi

Is it possible to control the Wet/Dry Instrument Mix parameter with a CC channel. For example, when mixing a score for film they usually use the decca tree mix, but if they want to bring forward a certain instrument/section for a certain part of the piece they then bring in the close mics / dry signal a bit more to bring that part to the forefront.

Is it possible to control the wet/dry fader on each instrument through a CC? Then I could push up the dry a bit and increase the volume of that part when required?

    Thanks!

  • Hi Simsy,

Right now, MIDI-automation is not inplemented into MIR. We know that it is necessary, and it is one of the points we have on our list for additional features.

A workaround would be to have an identically set-up icon on a stage, but with a different MIDI-channel and different wet/dry-settings for those parts you want to push to the forefront.

    HTH,

  • Hi

I will do the workaround you suggested. Good to hear you are making the params controllable through MIDI though.

    Thanks

I agree. For me there are a few prerequisites before I could consider MIR becoming part of my studio setup:

    1. Wet/dry mix automatable within MIR
    2. Audio input
    3. Kontakt hosting
    4. Ability to send dry signal to external reverb unit

It would also be good to be able to think of MIR as a proper mixing station. For example, using MIDI volume is not possible for all instruments within my setup, which is why I often use the VSTi Outputs. Of course, with MIR there are none....! It would also be necessary, because some Kontakt instruments don't react to Volume automation.

  • Hi DG!!

I too really need the Wet/Dry Mix and also the Kontakt hosting. But in a recent VSL newsletter, the one before the student discount one, it was announce that a free upgrade to MIR was coming that would include hosting VST's and also the scoring stage room pack.

I think VSL is waiting until VE Pro is fully working and then will add this extra functionality into MIR.

On the point of adding a dry signal to an external reverb device. In a live enviroment, for example on a scoring stage, I know they add artificial reverb, but would this not be to the sound of the orchestra in the room? Not a true dry signal like our samples? So to replicate this, would I not be better adding the artifical reverb to the MIR output?

Just looking for some opinions on this matter?

Also, could Dietz maybe give us an update on when the scoring pack will be available, and any news on the next MIR release with the VST support?

    Thanks.

You would nearly always use a send from the close mikes, as well as the room mikes, therefore I would be looking to send from the dry signal to an external reverb, and them back into my mixing environment.

  • Ah, I see! If they release the next update with the VST support, I will be alot happier. But the additional features you suggested I am sure will be coming as Dietz said. I do love MIR and feel it is a better way to work than having to spend so much time with different Altiverbs and depths, panning etc.

I spend no time on that at all. I get a man in........!

Thanks for the friendly words, Simsy. Highly appreciated!

Some of the features mentioned in this thread will be part of an update of Vienna MIR (like hosting 3rd-party VSTi's), other will be available only with MIR Pro (like dedicated Aux-Sends etc.)

  • Dietz,

I am sorry if I missed this but it took me a bit to find this thread lol.  My question is about what DG said (audio input) into MIR.  Will this be possible at some point?  I ask because I have many EXS instruments (non VSL instruments) that I would LOVE to use inside of my MIR mixes.  I have tried very hard but I cannot get any of my other reverb solutions to match that of the MIR so I really want to get them inside MIR if possible.  I am trying to move my entire work flow into MIR alone.  The audio input etc would allow me to also apply my voice and concert grand piano live tracks to my mixes within MIR instead of adding it to my mix afterwards in Logic using other means of reverb etc.

    Thanks!

  • Since we're resurecting this thread! [:P] I really would also like teh ability to send the dry mix out channels 3-4 to route to my external reverb. Then I can have both coming back into my DAW.

    Will this be added soon?

Also, how far off is MIR Pro?

    Thanks!

  • Aux Sends and (hopefully) Audio Inputs are part of the MIR Pro concept - but we are still quite a while from a release.

  • Hi Dietz,

I know it is a big ask, but it would be great if in the current MIR version, the normal/current mix is set to outputs 1-2 and a dry mix outputs 3-4. If anyone can VSL can!! [:D]
