    Could anyone tell me if there is a certain division of  the 127 midi velocities that VSL uses when putting together layered samples?  pp=? p=? mp=? mf=? f=? ff=? fff=?   This has always been a sort of undefined thing between different sampling companies, and when you put the patches together you have to use your ear to tell the dynamic level of an instrument, but sometimes you want a mf from a certain group and it plays the mp at the velocity of the mf which is very frustrating..

    Depend wich VSL you are using but i already have ask the same question and for the VSL special edition you can find there. http://vsl.co.at/en/68/375/379/241.htm

    The question i would have now is for what i have can see with VSL special edition ( i got the standard and extented library but not the edition + ) is that you don't have all the dynamic trigered an exemple with VI 14 sustain, you have 3 velocity layers 0-55 p, 56-108 f, 109-127 ff. So does the edition + bring the others velocity layers?

    Hey Giles, thanks or the pdf link.  I have the solo strings library and it is similar... there are patches that play certain dynamics, but the whole range doesn't seem to be within just a sus patch or legato... probably for performance purposes, especially on a weighted keyboard where dynamics are very sensitive.

    The map for the midi velocity ranges should be given for each instrument in all packages. Now I have to find out by trial and error, and set up and keep my own administration for that. Gerard

    I may not own the same libraries you do but if I go to my User Area I can get the manuals ("Mapping Documentation") for the libraries that I own.  For example, the velocity layers for the Violin Stacc patch in my Chamber Strings collection is:

     "Long Staccato

    3 velocity layers: 0-55; 56-108; 109-127 according to instrument."

    Remember you still have your Expression Fader and Velocity Xfade fader just in case the FF patch just isn't FF enough.

    Apparently that mapping documentation is not for all libraries, I can't find it for the epic orchestra (that came with the ensemble pro) Gerard
