  • VE Pro over LAN Slows Down my Logic 9

    Hello all

I’ve got a two system setup and am experiencing extremely slow response out of Logic Pro 9 on my master computer. For Example; just deleting a virtual instrument track in my Logic arranged window caused the spinning rainbow wheel to spin for whole minute before the track was removed and I could continue working. Is anyone else experiencing anything like this? Here is my template setup.

    Master Machine:

Mac Pro Quad  2.4 Ghz, 9 GB RAM, Snow Leopard, Logic Pro 9. No Plugs or VSTi’s instantiated (yet).

    Slave Machine:

Custom Intel Core 2 Quad 2.83 Ghz, 8 GB Ram, Vista Ultimate 64

Right now I have two instances of VE Pro 64bit running on the slave machine with VI, PLAY, and Kontakt instances running on both.  For the most part everything is running fine. Recordings and playback are no problem. It’s just when I do something administrative like move a track around in the Logic arrange window, or delete a track that I have the slow down problem.

    Any thoughts

  • This is most certainly due to Logic's Undo functionality. Logic saves a complete state of the VE Pro every time it moves a track around or something similar. The upcoming update does two things to improve the situation:

    1. Increases saving speed approx. 4x

    2. Allows you to "decouple" the plugin from the instance, making Logic NOT save any data from VE Pro beyond the connection info.

  • Great

Thanks for the quick reply. Just to clarify, is this a Logic or VE Pro update that I should be looking for?

  • VE Pro update.

  • Nice, this answered my other question in a different thread.

Does this apply for Logic 8 too? Because it's doing the same thing for me under 8.

The wheel isn't spinning for a minute though. It varies from 30-45 sec. I'm running 1 64bit and 1 32 bit on host, and 2 32 bits on slave.
