  • Separate Hard Drive

I am just about to install Vienna Special Edition, but first I need to get another HDD. My specs are Quad Core @ 2.4GHz, 3.25 gigs of RAM (on XP) Should I get a HDD solely for VSL? Would installing other sound libraries on same HDD effect the performance (such as East - West Collosus)?

  • Running your samples from a secondary (i.e. non-system) drive is definitely recommended.  As to whether or not you need a separate drive for various libraries you use, it depends.  Basically, the more samples you're going to use at a time, the greater the strain on the bus for the hard drive they're stored on.  How many/which libraries you're using doesn't make much difference, just the amount of samples (or the file size of all the samples) in total.  Spreading your samples onto multiple drives reduces that strain.  So if you're using enough samples to put a strain on your bus, adding another drive to spread them out will definitely help.
