  • Program Changes in VE Pro/VI ???

    Hi everybody,

I have set up a cool template with my Kontakt libraries and I wonder if the same thing goes with Vienna Ensemble/Vienna Instruments.

The idea is that I have a 16 pad controller (Akai MPD24) where the pads send program changes. In Kontakt I created instrument banks and for each instrument and I put the different articulations always in the same slot (Legato-Slot 1, Expressivo-Slot-2, etc.).

With my pads I can then switch between the articulations and the clue is that the articulations are always the same for every instrument regardless of the manufacturer, as opposed to Key switches where every patch has a different setup. Also program changes chase, keyswitches don't.

I am very happy with this setup and I would like to apply it to my Vienna Instruments (hosted in VE Pro) also but I couldn't figure out how to do this yet.

Thanks for your help in advance,

    Andreas

  • Hi Andreas,

you can use program changes 101-112 to switch between matrices, but you cannot use them to switch between patches themselves. However, you can assign a continuous controller to switch between patches in the matrices.

    Best,

    Paul

You can change Matrices with Program changes, but I don't think that you can change patches this way. Also if you upgrade to VST3, program changes don't work anyway.

  • What a pity it doesn't work. I didn't think this was too exotic, or is it?

Setting up every library the same way makes sense if you mix and match many different libs/samplers - are there any plans to implement this in the future?

@DG: I know that with legato, but I wanted to get away from KS completely. I know that Hans Zimmer has the exact setup that I described above, but then again he has his own Software...;-)

Ah yes, but HZ only needs 2 articulations; short and long. [;)]

    Damn, I knew it!!!

Well, just that the guys at VSL won't be bored to death I'll claim a feature request:

[I] Please make it possible to create instrument banks like Kontakt in Vienna Ensemble Pro that can be switched with program changes.
