    Hey guys,

    I've been budget a new setup, and I wanted to know if anyone here knew just how much VSL a mac mini can support? Preferably the highest mac mini model?

    Any testimonies?

    I use one as my percussion slave. I never have any problems loading whatever I want....I also use it for soprano choir. I don't know that I would trust it for bigger wind/string samples, though.

    As the new mac minis can have up to 4GB RAM you'll be able to load up some fairly hefty templates, especially if you're going to be using VEPRO on it and running your DAW from another machine.  The only think you should consider is either replacing the internal drive with a 7200RPM one or use an external Firewire drive (also at 7200RPM).  You'll run out of memory or disk i/o way before you hit the processing peak (unless you're running shed loads of Vienna Suite or other Plugins of course)

    Hmmm, the new mini-server seems interesting for those jobs with two internal HDs ... quite more expensive though ... best

    I just bought a Mini (2.26GHz model), loaded it with 8GB RAM (yes, the new ones handle 8GB!) + a 7.2k hard drive. I'm running VSL chamber srings and half of LASS in VEPro on it without problems so far. It cost me about $1400 - it's small, super quiet and no hassle for me, which is why I chose it over a PC slave.

    I've been thinking of the same thing but according to the specs only 4gb are supported.  How did you get 8gb to work?

    I bought a new MacMini and installed the RAM upgrade ;-) (bought from macsales.com)

    The specs are outdated. The latest Mac Mini firmware, which comes with the new ones, supports 8GB RAM. I currently load about 6.5GB of samples into RAM. runs great.
