  • Vienna Ensemble questions

I just purchased Vienna ensemble for my quad core 16 gig mac and I have a few questions.I'm using it with Digital Performer. 1)Using the server preferences it seems I can set the plug-ins to receive up to 32 midi channels yet when I open up available midi channels in Digital Performer there are only 16 available as outputs - is this a DP issue or a VE issue? 2)Am I right in saying that tempo synced instruments can only be used in server mode? 3)Is there an easy way to get audio routed to my DAW using stand alone mode? Stand alone mode seems to allow for the most plugin instances yet there seems to be no easy way to route the signal back to DP - I tried routing each sound from my symphobia plugin to an input as suggested in the manual but there was a tremendous amount of latency and to have to set up inputs and outputs for all my plugins seems like a very long and painful exercise. 4)Does the server only allow for single instances of plugins or am I missing something? - it seems possible that if I were trying to get the same amount of tracks I use in stand alone mode to work in server mode that I would have to have a many instances up and running causing a lot of clutter Thanks in advance for responding to these questions. Cheers, Don

  • I'm a bit confused here Don.  Are you talking about Vienna Ensemble or Vienna Ensemble Pro

    1) Only VST3 and RTAS version of the VE Pro plugin support more than one MIDI port (each port consisting of 16 channels), this is a plugin format limitation unfortunately 2) Yes, standalone version is running at a fixed 120 BPM at this point, other syncing options are for one of the future updates 3) This is actually exactly what the server is for 4) The server allows for multiple VE Pro instances, every instance can contain as many plugins as you desire, the MIDI/audio possibilities depend somewhat on the plugin format used (see 1) This clarifies some things?

  • Yes, and it would be nice, if VEPro supports MMC, MTC/BeatClock and all other stuff provided by MIDI protocol to synchronize hosts ;o)

  • It's one of the features that is likely to appear in a future update indeed.
