  • DDR3 4GB sticks price going down

Finally the price of 4 GB DDR3 memory sticks are moving in the right direction.

Recently Mushkin announced new 12GB kits (3*4) in their Blackline range (price of which is still not known), and now Crucial is joining by offering 4 GB DDR3 sticks, unbuffered, non ECC at approx. half the price of their Kingston equivalent.

I think others will follow soon with probably even lower prices, so that's good news for those who have been waiting for affordable 4GB DDR3 sticks.

  •  At least, as you say, it's going in the right direction.

I've used Ramjet before, never a problem, good thermal specs.

  •  The Ramjet kit is ECC. The price is nice though.

Affordable DDR3 4GB sticks which are non-ECC, unbuffered, have been very pricey and hard to find up to now.

  • oops.... yes you are right.  that new Mac is a little further away in my mind's eye now.

  • on my Mac I need FB ECC ram and they are expensives !

I wish the price of SSD's would drop as fast as 4GB unbuffered non-ECC modules over the past month because now Kingston offers their 12 GB kits for one third of the price of a month ago.

  • I recently decided to get 2 sticks of DDR3 PC8500 Ram for my Macbook Pro (To give it 8 Gig) at a cost of $550 (Canadian), which wasn't too bad since the cost before this was around $1400 (CAD).

What a difference it makes too. Can actually play my logic sessions without constantly having to do the play/rewind/play thing.

Current price is even lower than when I bought it .. I think it's now around $400. This is unbuffered RAM but I gotta say that it works REALLY well and I have no regrets about buying it.
