  • Video game music

    Heya all,

Here is the last version of a music for a french video game teaser. The video game is a bit like Tim burton universe ( a bit dark, cartton and crasy ) Still waiting to know what the Artistic director will say about it :X

Hope you will enjoy and say what you think about it. All is made with VSL full special edition ( not the + version ) Vienna suite ( thanks to beat kaufman for his great tutorail who helped me a lot ) Choir are for now make with Logic choirs and the voice is mine :X

I also hope it wont sound to much diferent from my computer since i found my music sound diferent from computer to another one.

  • hello :)

the idea is great :) but maybe you should try choirs with a longer attack rate so that it sounds more swelling at the beginning... just a little bit, they are a bit to harsh at the moment so they sound a little bit more natural and not like typical logic choirs :) hope you know what i mean.  if you used the exs24 for the choirs, just simply change the attack there. or use the vsl sopranos :)

another piont is maybe the mix. try to get the sound a bit warmer, so that the listener have the felling that it is more a wooden sound. hard to explain.

just play a bit around with it, but i like it so far

  • Heya,

Thanks for the feedback ^.^ Yes i used exs24 i don't have the sopranos ones, i waiting to see when VSL will show up with the Choirs :X

I will check for see what i can do with what you said and i still waiting for director artistic feedback but i think wont be befor january.

Thanks again and hope others will post some feedback to ^.^

  • Its sounds good, but  -  like everything else  - needs some minor tweaking. Aside from the previously mentioned Choirs, i think a few of the instruments need to be a bit further back in the mix. Some of them are a tad "too up front." What reverb program are you using, and how are you using it (i.e. Busses, or directly inserted on tracks? Are you using the Vienna Ensemble mixer?)

The one that stuck out the most to me was the stacatto Bassoon (i think) that plays the back - and - forth melody throughout, and the lead violins melodies. I think if you just moved them "back" a bit with regards to the reverb mix-ratio, it would soften them up a bit.

The overall mix sounds much better when the full strings come in during certain parts, and also i would say that near the end of the piece, where the horn melody, piano, and glockenspiel are playing sound the most realistic as far as the mix and placement. So listen to that part and maybe you can understand what im referring to about things sitting a bit further back. That part sound the best, in my opinion  :)

Keep up the good work!  :)

  • Heya,

Thanks for the feedback and sorry for the late answer ^.^

I using VE2 for the instrument and EQ/Powerpan plugins then i send instruments group to a 1 bus with an EQ an compressor who go to another bus where i use the convulation reverb ( all effect are the VS ones ) all bus with convulation reverb then go to the master who have a multiband and limiter on it.

I will look for what you said and see what ican do but idk if i will have the time now with all xmass stuff :P

Thanks again for the feedback and i hope later others will give me some aswell ^.^

  • Heya,

For start happy new year to all and wish you the best for 2010! ^.^

Now here is the few things i changed for my music. Ihave reduce the solo violin volume, i have rework the detph for each group for make it sound more natural. For the choir i didn't touch the attack yet because i rarely use EXS24 so i don't know how to change the attack there :X but i have change the detph for the choir aswell. Thanks to those who helped me with their comment and hope have some new ones ^.^

Well the last version i gived to  the director artistic got valided but i was still think it could be better :X so after find a new way to work/mix and all i remade a new version.

I will explain a bit for you guyd can say me if its really sound like if a real orchestral was playing it.

Contra Bassoon playing all in m/p stacco / sfz for simule accent

Tubular Bell playing all in m/f

    Marimba playing all in m/p

    Glockenspiel playing all in m/p

    Harp playing all in m/p

Solo Violin all played on m/f sustain with accent/ sustain/ legato/detache

Chanber Violins all played on m/p sustain with accent/ sustain/ legato/detache (only here for give a litle more to the solo violin)

    Orchestral Violins 1st pizzicato/detache with accent m/p, sustain/legato with variation m/p>m/f>m/p>p>m/f>m/p>p>m/f>m/p

    "             " Violins2 1st pizzicato/detache with accent m/p, sustain/legato with variation m/p>m/f>m/p>p>m/f>m/p>p>m/f>m/p

    "             " Violas 1st pizzicato/detache with accent m/p, sustain/legato with variation m/p>m/f>m/p>p>m/f>m/p>p>m/f>m/p

"             " Cellos 1st pizzicato/detache with accent m/p, While violin melody pizzicato/detache with accent m/f, While clarinet/bassoon melody pizzicato/detache with accent m/p end of the music staccato m/f  sustain with accent witch creschendo/decreschendo m/p>m/f>pp

"             " Basses 1st pizzicato/detache with accent m/p, While violin melody pizzicato/detache with accent m/f, While clarinet/bassoon melody pizzicato/detache with accent m/p end of the music staccato m/f  sustain with accent witch creschendo/decreschendo m/p>m/f>pp

    Choirs all playing m/p

Read that can be crasy but i really want make it sound on volume like if it was played by a real orchestral.

All feedback are welcome or anything. Thanks by advence and hope you will enjoy ^.^
