  • Vsl and Overture 4

Hello Does Vsl support Overture 4? There are some contradicting information on the Overture websites and forums, and I haven;t been able to make it to work. My understanding is that the Vsl need ti be placed in the VST folder. However, the VST menu is unavailable fomr overture. Is there another way? Does anyone have any leads? Thank you.1

  • Hello Philip!

Unfortunately I don't have Overture at hands to try it out.
Generally it shouldn't be a problem to use the Vienna Instruments with Overture, as both are supporting the VST standard.
So your problem is that you can't find the Vienna Instruments from inside Overture. Is that right? I guess, that somewhere in Overture you can set the folder for your VST plugins.

Maybe it helps to get in touch with the Overture support team.

  • Hallo Philip,

Yes, you can combine Overture 4 and VI, VE and even VE-PRO (!), although it is a VST-host itself *. Unfortunately there isn't any relevant sign of life from the company itself: 'Don' doesn't answer any forum threads since about a more than a year ago I believe. This very nice program has some real believers under its customers, and indeed it has some very very fine features. But please go to the forum and read about all kinds of pros (the possibiliity of changing with ease between notation and velocity and CC lanes blows Sibelius and Finale just away, I must admit) and cons (rather unstable) of this product. There are some rumours on this forum that Overture is going to disappear eventually: too many not fixed bugs, no sign of Overture 5,  etc... A recent visit on the site shows a Last Minute Christmas Sale however, so someone must have put this on that spot. 'Don'?

    regards, Erik

    * just follow VST > set folder and choose there your VST folder BTW

  • Thank you for your message. Unfortunately, Overture does NOT as of yet, support VST, although they have announced that they would in the future. I am trying to find out another way to make them communicate. Somebody suggested Bidule, bit I am struggling with that too. Philip

Philip

  • After reading the specs again, it seems to me that VST is only implemented in the Windows version so far. If you are working on Mac, you could also use the IAC bus to communicate with VE or VE Pro.
