  • [SOLVED] Vienna Instruments Library Installer gets stuck

Hello to everybody, I'm trying to install the special edition on my macbook pro, os 10.6.2, but the installer gets stuck after i've selected the package.info on the first dvd. All I can do is force-quit the installer. I'm using the latest versions of both the eLicence Control Center and the Vienna Instruments Software, have repaired permissions and no further hardware attached to the computer - apart from the Steinberg Key. Any Ideas what I could do? Thanks for your help, mab

  • Hello mab,

this could be related to your DVD drive. Please try the following: Copy the contents of DVD#1 to a temporary folder on your computer, then point to installer to the package.info there.

    Hope that works!

    Best,

    Paul

  • another possibility is a firewall or AV software blocking local calls (eg. zone alarm likes to do this) so the installer is not able to communicate with the key and stays there waiting for a response ...

  • Thanks for your help. I've turned off the firewall, but the situation remains unchanged. Tried also to copy the DVD onto the harddrive and used an external dvd-drive, still no difference. Any more ideas? -mab

  • Hi mab,

copying the content worked fine? There must be something on your system that blocks the installation process right from the start.... but unfortunately I don´t have an idea what it might be.

    Did anybody else experience this?

  • ok, first things first.

does your eLC show the special edition license?

did you try to copy the DVD or did you indeed copy?

do you login to your computer with a specially restricted account or as the default user?

can you actually open a stand-alone VI or VE (even if there is no content, just the interface)?

does VI or VE show up as validated plugin in your audio host?

anything special with your system (you maybe don't even think it might be important)?

  • Hello again! I'm back from vacation and i've got the special edition running now: I used an old iBook with OS 10.4 to install the dvd content onto my firewire harddrive and now i can plug this harddrive to the macbook pro and use VI standalone and as a plugin in logic. Seems to work fine so far. Still i find it strange that i wasn't able to install vienna on my newer computer. To answer your questions: The eLC does show the special edition license, i copied the dvd but it didn't work on the macbok pro, i don't use a restricted account. And as far as I know, there's nothing special about my system. Anyway, I'm happy to see and hear my VI running now, but I'm still interested in any ideas about my problems, since I'm about to install the special edition plus. mab

  • thanks for reporting back - this rather looks like an issue with your DVD drive on the macBook Pro then (VI Library DVDs are double layer)

  • Hello, I am having the EXACT same issue. have downloaded the .zip file, and all the .cab files are in that same folder. Every-time I run the Library installer, it asks me to locate the package info file, and says to make sure the .cabs are in the same folder(which they are), but when I locate the package info file, the installer stars to run ( White rectangle box appears on screen) and then the wheel of death (on my mac) shows up! please help me ASAP! wish you had phone support, much faster and efficient!

  • welcome EWITHAP, which OS are you running?

if OS X did you already repair your permissions and have double checked you don't have blocked local calls by a firewall?

in your process list does actually the synsopos and the vsldaemon appear?

  • Thanks for the quick response, all I had to do was actually restart my computer in order for the installer to recognize the newly downloaded activation license for the horns library. everything is working fine now! thanks!

  • Yes I am today. Trying to install - it hangs and does not respond. myspace.com/dbellochio www.myspace.com/wildewestmusic www.wildewestmusic.com David Bellochio WildeWestMusic www.wildewestmusic.com (201)674-6689 cell# (201)945-1517 studio# G5 2x2.26 Ghz Quad-Core Intel Xeon 12 GB 1066 Mhz DDR3 OSX 10.6.2 SL

  • welcome david (btw: we just merged your accounts so you might need to reset your password),

could you please detail what *it* is which hangs - the license download finished as far as i can see (using an older license control center it appears).

maybe also try to reboot especially if you downloaded the license on another computer and had a vsldaemon running on your music computer.

  • How's that a DVD issue?

The guy copied the contents to his hard drive and the installer still crashed!

  • Hi

I'm having a very similar issue.

Vienna Instruments Library Installer crashes every time I choose the package.info file.

    • (Vienna standalone runs with full UI, no presets or sounds)
    • (Vienna Directory Manager runs no directories)

I've tried to install the libraries with:

    • the physical VSL SE DVD
    • a .dmg disk image of that DVD
    • a copy of the files in a regular folder.

    System info:

    Mac Pro 2010 16GB RAM

    OS X 10.7

    Vienna Instruments v4.1.8008

    Vienna Ensemble v4.1.8008

    sLicenser v 6.3.1.1066

    Hi,

an update that includes a Library Installer bug fix for OS X 10.7 is in the works.

As a workaround, you can install the sample content on a different computer (with an earlier OS) and copy the sample content to your Lion computer.

Then assign the sample content in the Directory Manager.

  • Hey, I just bought this today...in an emergency for a project and now I can't install with OSX 10.7 Lion. Not cool. If I put up $500 I expect at least phone help to work around the install. I don't have another Mac computer on hand. Please help. Vienna Instrument Installer crashes every time I direct to package.info. Will
