  • VE-PRO & Pro-Tools LE Issues Identified

    Hi Vienna Team,

Currently working on a Pro-Tools project.  Wanted to use VE-PRO.  I have the latest Pro Tools LE version 8.0.3 (certified for Snow Leopard) and the latest VE-PRO release build:  4780.  Running on an 8-core Mac Pro, 16 GB RAM.

    Two issues have been identified:

    1.  All the VI Matrix presets that were created in VE-PRO while using Logic do not play in Pro Tools when initially loaded.  I found the problem to be that the Sus parameter in the matrix control area is set to zero when loaded.  The normal setting is 63.  Once I move the slider up to 63, the instrument then plays.  If I re-save the matrix, then the correct values are then stored and accessible within the VE/Pro Tools configuration.  This is a hassle considering that I have many matrix established and would have to have to re-save all of them (days of work) again just so that I can use them in Pro Tools.   I checked using just VI with in Pro Tools and there does not seem to be a problem.  It only occurs in VE-PRO.

    2.  For some reason, when I go to exit the sequence, Pro-Tools stops responding.  I have to force a quit then try to close VE-PRO (as I have done numerous times using Cubase and Logic) and an error message pops up stating that there are still active connections.  I would assume that because I had to force quit Pro-Tools.  This only happens when using VE-PRO.  Everything appears to be ok when using VI or any other manufacturer instrument which really points to VE-PRO as being the culprit.

Any assistance in correcting these two issues would be greatly appreciated.

PS:  I had only 1 instrument and 1 patch loaded in VE-PRO when all this testing was happening.

    Maya,

I've noticed one other thing with VE-PRO since the last update that is not related to Pro-Tools but to the 64-bit server in general.  When I first try to load the VE-PRO server (before bringing up the sequencer), the system will just sit there with no indication of VE-PRO 64-bit server loading.  I've waited 5 minutes or so.  VE-Pro menu line is displayed during the whole time.  I then try to quit VE-PRO (in order to try reloading) and when I select Quit from the VE-PRO main menu, then the box comes up stating that it is scanning the contents followed in a few minutes by bringing up the 64-bit server window.  It's like it is in a wait state until I try to exit then it move forward with the load.

I tried reloading the last update (which I've saved to one of my drives) to ensure I had a good load and the same happens.  I'm going to try and re-download the update just to make sure I did in fact get a good copy and will test again.  If it's ok, then I'll check out how it responds with Pro-Tools.  I'll let you know what I find.....

  • Maya,

I re-downloaded the latest update for VE-PRO.  The file sizes of the two updates (the one a week ago and now the one today) did match.  I performed the update and now the 64-bit server does load correctly.  I tried it with Pro-Tools and when I go to exit Pro-Tools, it still hangs.  The only way to exit is to force a quit.

  • Maya,

One additional piece of info.  The issue of not playing custom presets is not limited to Pro Tools.  I see it is also an issue in Cubase 5.  Not only is the sus value at zero but the Matrix Name does not change if you double click on a different custom matrix.  It loads the new matrix with the sus at zero and leaves the previous matrix name.
