  • 64 bit VI

Can we expect a 64 bit version of the Vienna Instruments to ues in Logic 9.1?  If so, When do you think?

  • Yep. Big loads of templates for VE Pro, but for song-by-song articulation loads, VI can't be beat. And that shady 4 GB limit has been more like 2.7 for me in practical terms of stability.

Even if it's not arriving for months, it'd be helpful to know if VI 64 is coming, for the sake of current template design.

  • A 64 bit version of Vienna Instruments is in development.

    Thanks Maya!

Well Herb had pretty much quoted the same thing....

"Quoting the last feature of this newsletter:

"Mac version: 32-bit for Mac PPC and Intel, 64-bit version coming soon"

    best

    Herb"

    - trouble was that was back in 2007! so 3 years on how's progress?!

  • not motivated to re-iterate all the arguments of the discussion (carbon vs.cocoa, 64bit carbon support canceled by apple, OS X GUI 32bit until 10.6) we now see the first 64bit host (except VE PRO of course) with logic 9.2 ...

so now its starting to make sense to release a 64bit VI

    christian

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
  • I asked Paul Steinbauer this week after a VSL presentation in Los Angeles about the 64bit version of Vienna Instruments for Logic 9.1 and said "... in a few days"

If it is that close, how about some official announcement.

  • will there be any advantages other than greater RAM allocation?

  • Hi Edgar,

I´ll have to admit that this was a misunderstanding at the clinic. I meant a new optimized new version for VE PRO in combination with Logic 9.1 is being tested right now.

Vienna Instruments 64 bit for OS X is also being tested, but I cannot promise how fast it will be released.

    Best,

    Paul

  • Please let us know when a 64 bit version of the player plugin is ready.  I'd like to start getting some VSL instruments, but at this point I might as well wait until they are running in a 64 bit version.

    Thanks.

  • Hi

We are quite a few months on now.  Is the 64 bit version coming out soon? At present if Ioad up 10 instances of VI in a blank project the projetc won't open again! Even in some projects where I have only 3 or 4 instances running the project wont open - this means I than have to disable to plugin in the AU manager (Logic9), then open up the project, delete all the instances, save as a different project file and then re-load all the instances. As you can imagine this really disrupts work flow!

    Thanks

    Hi jampig,

the 64 bit version for OS X was released on the 3rd of march 2010.

Please check your User Area for the latest update.

This could also have to do with the fact that you have not registered the Extended Library of your Special Edition - your demo license expired in december 2009....

    Paul

  • Thanks for replying Paul, but I think I'm missing something here. I'm talking about a 64 bit version of VI for mac OS X, I can only see there has been an update for VE and for Windows VI.

Also, can you please explain what you mean about not registering the extended library of my special edition?  As far as I was concerned I had a demo version of the extended library which has now expired.  So, I dont really understand what youre saying about registering it??

    Thanks!

    Hello jampig,

well, Vienna Instruments in their two latest version are 64 bit on OSX, you can also check in the changelog.

Regarding the Extended Library: If you have used any sounds of the Extended Library in your songs, these songs won´t open anymore (because the license is missing).

We hope that we can change that with future versions, so that only the samples you have registered are opening.

I have sent you another 30 days demo license so that you can open the songs - don´t forget to bounce all tracks.

And of course you can always just purchase the Extended Library of the Special Edition online.

    Best,

    Paul

  • Hi Paul

Thanks for your reply.  I have installed the latest update and after a lot of testing it seems to have fixed the problem.  FYI I'm still using it in 32bit mode so it wasn't a matter of being able to access more ram that fixed the issue.  Also the projects did not use any of the extended library in them so that wasn't the issues either.

Anyway, the point is that the update seems to have fixed my issue for now. I will post back if I encounter any more problems.

    Thanks

    jp

  • While things have been going fine with loading several instances of Vienna Ensemble in Logic, I'm curious when the 64-bit version of Vienna Ensemble (the free one) will be available for OS X. Is it in development?

Also, is there any particular reason my projects sometime open with empty instances? Restarting my computer fixes this, but it's irritating have to always do this. I'm using EW/QL Stormdrum 2 as well, so maybe Vienna Ensemble and EW/QL PLAY aren't getting along nicely?

  • Hello quartz3d,

Vienna Ensemble (the free one) will probably stay 32 bit on OS X for a while.

I don´t know a particular reason why some of your projects oopen with empty instances, but maybe you´d like to add some details of your system (OS, Sequencer and version, RAM, Computer specs...)?

    Best,

    Paul

  • Could this be connected with older projects opening blank? - see:

  • It's not a problem with using older song files, as the template I'm using was created with the current version of Vienna Ensemble and Vienna Instruments. Currently I'm using an 8 core Mac Pro OS X SL with 8 GB RAM. I'm running both Vienna Special Edition and EW/QL Stormdrum 2 in Logic 8 (all latest updates).
