    Are Solid State Drives fast enough to fully stream the VSL samples? i.e could you load the whole sample in without using RAM or normal hard drives?

    I realise ram is MUCH faster than SSD's, but I don't know what speed the VSL samples would need so they wouldn't have drop outs, audio problems, etc.

    Or perhaps another solution.... could I run Sibelius and have say a 30GB SSD triggering off the samples, essentially doing the same job as RAM currently does??

    There is a fixed buffer for the VSL sample player, so the answer is no.

    Obviously when we are all using SSD then the size of the buffer could be reduced, which would save loading so much into RAM.

    i just got a small SSD drive to replace my boot hard drive. it is the best hardware upgrade for the money I ever did since 1989.

    i am ready to get SSD drives for streaming sample contents as well as the prices are dropping now.

    My request: Could we have a switch in the preferences pane of the next version of the VSL sample player to toggle between buffer sizes for regular hard drives and SSD drives? I would very much appreciate this. I think SSD drives are gaining popularity now very very quickly.
