  • What's the difference between Vienna Special Edition and Solo Strings?

I'm new to all of this so please bear with me. My main question is in reference to articulation. Do both products have the same articulation? Is there a difference?

  • Thanks.

  • Also, keep in mind that there are fewer velocity layers in SE, and SE is sampled in whole steps rather than every half step.  That said, I have the SE libraries, and they are excellent in their own right.  If you can afford it, I would strongly suggest getting the Plus libraries (both standard and extended) as well as the standard SE libraries (both standard and extended), as the Plus libraries really help to fill out the collections.  If you have never purchased a Vienna library, SE is an excellent place to start.  If you have limited computer power, the SE libraries also have the advantage of requiring less computer resources than trying to run several of the standard libraries.

  • Thanks. I actually ordered the Vienna Special Edition and this is actually my first purchase. UPS should be delivering by 3/24/10. I noticed if I wanted to expand my Vienna SE, especially the strings, I can purchase and download the Special Edition - Strings Plus. Do I need to buy both the Special Edition - Strings Plus Standard and Extended in order to have all the velocity layer and samples in half steps?

  • Hi there.

I don't believe anything associated with the SE versions contains half-step samples, even Plus or extended.  Just more articulations, or in the case of Extended, more instruments.  I have the SE Extended with Strings Plus (Extended) and a lot of Download Instruments, which have more articulations than the SE Extended version of instruments.

It'd be nice to afford one of the bigger collections, but at my age and income, Probably not.  Anyway, the sound is real nice!
