  • How many Stylus instruments in one server instance

    Hi All,

For the past week I've been trying to come up with a setup with Logic 9 and Vienna ensemble pro that will allow me to score a half hour TV show in one Logic project. The music is hip hop electronica. I'll be using about 5 instances of Stylus with all 8 channels loaded on each. I'll also need 2 instances of Omnisphere and about 12 tracks of synths like Gladiator.

I have 2 MacPro 8 core machines, each with 18 gigs of RAM. For the time being, I'm still using OS 10.5.8. I'm new to Vienna Ensemble Pro and thought that I should have 1 Stylus in each instance of the server so I wound up having a jumble of servers on both MacPros. I've had crashes and computer slow downs and my tight schedule is making me eager to get a system that's stable and works.

Is there a recommended limit to how many multi-timbral instruments that can be put into each server instance? I've been keeping the Omnisphere and synths on the slave computer with the Styluses on the main computer. My Logic session then is really mostly running midi, fx plugins and a few tracks with Apple Loops.

I worry that Vienna Ensemble Pro isn't stable enough for a TV production schedule.

    thanks,

    Judith Gruber-Stitzer
