If it must be clicked, at least you gave us a bigger target in the 64-bit beta. That's noted and appreciated.

Big Thanks for Bigger "Show Window"

Yes, thanks for that. Question: Now that Logic is 64-bit and others may soon follow, are there any thoughts at VSL about having a VI version that does not rely on the VSL server? In a 64-bit app, the VSL server function is kind of redundant, in some ways. I know it may still be useful in order to keep samples in memory when closing and opening files, but if we had the option to do away with the server function and window altogether, I know I'd choose to work that way. Thanks.

When you use VI or VE as a plug-in in Logic (for example), you double-click on the channel strip where it says Vienna. Instead of the immediate opening of the Vienna window, you get an in-between window that requires another click on a button that says "Show Window." It has been the bane of VI lovers since the beginning of recorded history (or thereabouts).
If you've never seen it, you're probably using the stand-alone.
This unwelcome window is a necessary bridge, out of VSL's hands due to operating system protocol. But we users continue to hope that the rocket scientists in Vienna can code their way around it.

Spectrasonics seem to have achieved this.
Their latest versions of Omnisphere and Trilian both allow you to engage a server.
From the Omnisphere Help file:
Server mode is a way of solving the "out of memory" problem that can happen when using large sample sets with 32-bit hosts and is an alternative to using 64-bit hosts. The Server mode should be used when you are running a 32-bit host on Mac, and you are loading large samples. If you are running a Mac 64-bit host (such as Logic 9.1 or higher), it is not necessary to enable Server mode.
The plugins still open directly as normal Logic floating plugin windows.
Maybe its now time for VSL to overcome this Show Window server interface issue which has bothered many of us for so long.....

Oh boy, I had high hopes for the "Show Window"-window to be history in the new release. Is it really that hard to overcome?

Hello spektralfabrik,
the whole system of our software is based on a server based concept - there needs to be an application that connects to this server, at least as long as this technology is the backbone.
One more reason to use the free Vienna Ensemble - this way you can access many Vienna Instruments instances at once.
Best,

Hi Paul,
I just love comments that are vague about the future....no, really. [Y]
It means we can live in hope that there might be changes coming.
By the way, I see that NI's Kontakt sampler also makes use of an external server which can simply be enabled in the plugin. No "intermediate" window required.
Roll on the future for VSL....
