  • VE Pro -- documentation is thoroughly incomplete

    <rant>

Why ship a product without complete documentation?

The following functions are totally missing from the docs:

    1. Transport

    2. Channel Preset

    3. Channel Set...

Additionally, the File Structure discussion is all of one sentence. Come on guys! A brief discussion of file structure for the various workflows (server/non-server), as slave, etc... is expected. Having to ask forum questions is a productivity killer. Document what the program does and let me RTFM. Please.

    Thanks.

  • Hi Jeremy,

well observed, sorry about that. It will be added in the new manual, should be released soon.

"Transport" is the menu entry to switch the engine on and off.

A "Channel Preset" saves a whole channel, including the samples. It can be accessed through a right-click on the channel name and through the "Channel" option in the menu bar.

A "Channel Set" saves multiple selected channels. This feature is accessible in the "Channel" option in the menu bar only.

These options were added with updates lately. There will be more video tutorials available asap as well!

    Best,

    Paul

    Hi Paul,

    Thanks for the reply.

So a channel set would be useful for a multi-timbral instance of Omnisphere, with 3 stereo inputs, routed from Omni to VEPro and then to my selected outputs? That's very useful!

A bunch of us over at the DUC have all demoed and purchase VEPro in the past week, and we are all frustrated on the file management -- is there a away that you can jump in on my thread about this and maybe simplify things a bit? What's really confusing is the master/slave workflow with protools. The docs really need to be accurate (or at least a forum post that is searchable).

    Thanks,

    Jeremy

PS -- how can I search the VSL forum?

  • Hi Jeremy,

you would turn the engine off if you want to free up some CPU of 1 or more Vienna Ensemble PRO instances or to give Vienna Ensemble PRO a fresh start.

A channel preset is be the best way to save a channel. This includes all plug-in settings. The best way to save Vienna Instruments settings is to save matrices or presets within the Vienna Instruments.

A channel set is simply multiple channel presets, be it your string section or your Omnisphere/Kontakt/whatever plug-ins, including the routing.

Sorry to hear that you are frustrated - we´ll do our best to catch up. I´ll check out your thread about file management.

    Best,

    Paul

    Hi Paul,

    Try:

    http://community.vsl.co.at/forums/t/24778.aspx

and while you're at it, we have a healthy discussion going on at the DUC:

    http://duc.digidesign.com/showthread.php?t=268961

    (we're into 6+ pages in less than a week - try pages 4-6 ?)

VE Pro is a tool that will allow some of us to continue to work on complex mixes in protools by offloading the VIs -- without a substantial investment in hardware interfaces. But you know this. SO many Protools users are going to start discovering this. BUT it's gotta work. The fact that nobody seems to know how to explain how it works is baffling.

Yeah, it works by itself -- but now, let's make a data management workflow. How do we accomplish the basics?

Thanks for your help  ( in lieu of written documentation )   ;-)

    best,

    Jeremy
