  • How many audio channels are possible over LAN?

Hi, how many channels can be transferred over a Gigabit LAN? On a MacPro there are two Gigabit connections. Can I use both lines at the same time to transfer audio from the Vienna Ensemble server to Logic Pro? Is the limit of audio channels on the LAN a hard limit or a soft limit? Are there - lets say - 32 channels fixed and the 33rd channel is not sent or do I have to check the audio for dropouts or other disturbances? I'm new to Vienna Ensemble but did not find answers to these questions in this forum. Many thanks for your engagement.

    Hi,

you can use up to 128 channels for each instance of VE PRO - the settings are in the "Preferences" of the VE PRO Server.

You can check it out with the free demo license (just click "Try"). You will need a ViennaKey or a Syncrosoft Key (Steinberg) to use this license.

    Best,

    Paul

  • Hi Zerv!

Finally a question where I can help with my profession ;)

I am not really familar with Macs, but combing two physical network cards to one logical interface (with almost double bandwidth) should not be a problem at all.

Unfortunately this "feature" has that many names that it is quite hard to find the correct information: Trunking, bonding, aggregration, teaming ...

One link describing that OS-X can do it: http://www.apple.com/server/macosx/technology/networking.html

    Best regards

  • Thank you. I found it but did not test it yet. Best regards

  • Has anybody tried a Firewire Network ?
