  • VSL website does not work on an iPad

Just for the record, this website has lots of problems when using an iPad. I couldn't even post this topic from the iPad as the message area would not accept any text entry. (Other web forums DO)

Also, the web pages are cut off and there is no scroll bar to see further down a page.

For example, in vertical mode, this is what displayed on one page:

However, when the iPad is turned sideways, only a portion of the page displays and the rest is cut off with no way of seeing it:

Hopefully you folks will know what would cause such behaviour.....

  •  i can answer the scrolling question: please use the 2-finger scroll for the current version (scrolling layer).

however i don't understand why the textarea (to post a message) does not show the virtual keyboard (same behaviour on the iPhone here)

iPad is said to arrive during july here in europe ... christian

  • Hi Christian,

I could not reply to your post on my iPad as I am unable to enter any text when trying to reply at these forums.

Maybe the VSL forums are too complex with regard to layers etc.?

I managed to get the iPad keyboard to show when I chose Quick reply but then the message area was not "live".

The 2-finger scroll does work, thanks.

    Regards - Colin

  • I really wish you redesigned the VSL website, to display properly on mobile Safari.

The problem might be your extensive use the <table> tag for visual layout, which is an outdated and method of web design.

  • I have to agree, even on the mac version of Safari, these forums display funny and basic things like arrows to scroll up or down don't work.  It's kind of strange to have the whole page in a smaller frame instead of just using the page.

  • While Apple is being lamented here and there for not supporting Flash on its shiny new iPad – boy does Cupertino have a strong dislike for the platform – Adobe has already responded to the news on the official Flash Platform blog. The blog post, unambiguously titled “Building iPad Applications with Flash”, is mostly just to remind people of the company’s Packager for iPhone product, which will enable developers to make Flash apps function on the iPhone / iPod Touch through a work-around whereby Flash apps can be easily converted into iPhone apps using Creative Suite 5 (CS5). Adobe also published a post on its Adobe Flash Platform blog addressing the apparent lack of Flash support in the iPad. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Want to get-on Google's first page and loads of traffic to your website? • As the original poster, I feel entitled to respond here.  [H]

1 - This discussion has nothing to do with Flash.

2 - Recent news items have proved Steve Jobs of Apple correct regarding Flash on mobile devices - they crash often and the battery life is shortened.

3 - I have no need or desire to jailbreak my iPad just to run Flash on it.

4 - The problem I experience with the VSL website would not be solved by jailbreaking or installing Flash.

There is another thread with several criticisms of this website here:

    http://community.vsl.co.at/forums/t/25771.aspx

I don't necessarily agree with all of the issues, but clearly folks are not happy in some aspects. I love VSL's products and hope that all of these issues get sorted out as doing so will only improve their sales and image in general.

  • Hi guys,

everything can always be improved. But while talking about changes is easy compared to finding solutions to complex problems (especially when you have to integrate plans for the future).

Right now, our focus is on Vienna Instruments PRO - and we´re glad that we can trust on your patience when it comes to changing standards and perspectives.

    Best,

    Paul

  • Had the same issue on iphone ages ago (still the same). You have to use www.mowser.com to read it on iphone / ipad. Not very elegant, but it does work.

    D

PS. can we please also have better search facilty on the forums?

  • Paul, this discussion is not about "improvement", the point is this website doesn't work on iOS4 at all.

Since I do roughly 95% of browsing on an iPad/iPhone these days, this is quite a big deal for me.

  • abel, you may have missed the post above - please use the 2-finger scroll for the content layer with the current version.

mobile safari is behaving different here, it tries to move the whole page instead of the scrolling layer if one finger is used.

  • wow, it really works. Thanks CM!
