  • Vienna/Logic Pro 9 hangs on loading project.

When loading a project that contains vienna ensemble plug ins. Logic 9 hangs on load. Loading bar stops at loading "vienna ensemble pro". Been trying to figure it out all day. This happens whether or not the VE Pro server is open. Any ideas? LOGIC 9, Mac Pro 2.8ghz, 8GB ram, Motu 896HD.

  • I've just done some more tests on this. I saved a 3 logic projects. 1. VE Pro's loaded but bypassed when saved. 2. VE Pro's loaded and connected when saved. 3. VE Pro's loaded but disconnected when saved. 1 and 2 hang on launch. 3 launches fine. If anyone has any ideas why this is happening I'd love to know. I'm testing out VE Pro to buy and it's been going well, but if I can't get over this I can't rely on it.

  • I'm using logic 9.1.1 with Snow leopard 10.6.3.

  • What you're witnessing is the plugin infinitely trying to connect to an inexistant slave. You should put your VE Pro slave system on a static IP in order to allow the plugin to connect to the slave.

However, VE Pro 4.0.5814 fixes this. It will only try to connect for one second, after which the loading will continue. This public beta is available from your user area.

  • Thanks for your speedy reply. I will try that this morning and let you know how i get on.

  • I can only seem to find this version in the user area? Vienna Ensemble PRO (OS X 10.5 Intel+PPC, 32+64bit) build 5436 http://vsl.co.at/en/68/428/1739/1365.htm Where is VE Pro 4.0.5814?

  • The link should be right under 5436, marked "PUBLIC BETA".

  • I've implemented the static IP and that seems to have cured the hang in Logic without the update. But I think I will install the Beta anyhow, as you have been working on it. Thanks for all your help. Everything seems pretty solid here. Just a quick question. I've been checking midi timing. Using the same settings in 2 instances of Stylus. One on the slave into logic through VE PRO plug on an instrument track and the other inserted directly on an instrument track. Reversing the phase on one of these tracks doesn't completely cancel out the audio. It's close enough for me though. Should I expect the midi to be completely tight?

  • In Logic you have to start and stop the transport to "activate" the dynamic latency compensation, sometimes a couple of times. This is a limitation of Logic. You should try the same with two Logic instrument tracks first to do a proper comparison though.

  • It's so very close that I'm really not bothered by it, I just wondered what I should expect. But so far I'm really happy with the results. I have one further question. I'm running a 32bit server on the Mac Dual 2.5ghz PPC slave at the moment. Will I be able to run a 64 bit server on the master computer at the same time? Thanks again for all your help.

  • Yes, you can run both the 32bit and 64bit Server on a single system. Also, there is no jitter or additional latency in VE Pro apart from the amount of buffers set in the Server Interface plugin. It is sample accurate.

  • I've purchased a second USB key to test the 64 bit server on the master computer alongside the 32 bit on the slave. Can I acquire a second demo authorisation?

  • Sorted the second demo authorisation. This is a really nice piece of software. I have a small problem, but i think i know the answer already. My 32 bit server is running on a dual 2.5ghz PPC mac tower. I saved a metaframe with 8 omnisphere instances. When i reloaded the file after a shutdown the settings of 6 of the omnisphere's were missing. I repeated this problem twice. I think I read that VSL don't support PPC computers, so I'm imagining this is the problem?

  • I've sorted the problem with the missing omnisphere settings. I had changed the audio outs preferences to two per instance. When I put it back to 32 the omnisphere settings were retained. Now everything is working great! Midi timing is very good too. I'm going to use the system on a few projects and see how it goes and then buy it. Thanks for all the help that I've received here!

  • With pleasure.
