  • Will 64 bit VE Pro not open 32 bit AU Plugs like Absynth, etc?

I'm on a Mac Pro and Mac G5 slave.  The question below is about running on my Mac Pro...The slave is of course running VE Pro in 32 bit.

I just got 64 bit version of Kontakt (4.1) and now all my Kontakt's open in the 64 bit version of VE Pro (on my Mac Pro)

But some plugins still do not, like Absynth from Native Instruments and Omnisphere from Spectrasonics.  Logic in 64 bit mode will open 32 bit plugins if you let Logic 32 bit scan all the plugins first.

Is there a like scenario in VE Pro that will allow 32 bit plugins to run in VE Pro 64 bit?

  • No, you need to run the 32bit server to use the 32 bit plugs.

  • Sorry if an uninformed question:  Can you run both the 32 bit server and the 64 bit server at the same time on one computer?  Or just one or the other?

    Thanks

  • You can run both on the same system without problems.

  • Hey Karel, thanks so much for your reply.  Read the scenario below and let me know what I might need to do to make this work:

I tried opening up both servers on my Mac Pro (see below for entire system specs) and then opening Logic in 64 bit mode.

I then went to an existing film cue that I had done with everything in 32 bit mode (Logic 32, Kontakt 32, VE Pro 32).  That cue had 3 VE Pros on the host machine, and 2 VE Pros on the slave machine. The slave machine is a Mac G5 (see below) so its VE Pro's and server must remain at 32 bit.

When I opened the existing Logic project all looked well, it showed the VE Pros loading up their plugins etc.  At the point where it was almost finished I got the message "VE Pro has unexpectedly quit".  It was the 32 bit server on the host that shut down.

The 32 bit VE Pros on the slave G5 loaded and opened just fine

Now this may be that the song was saved with everything in 32 bit mode.  Perhaps the song was forcing all the new 64 bit Kontakts to load into a 32 bit VE Pro?  I'm thinking that this may be the case, because Logic stayed open, and the 64 bit VE Pro Server stayed open.

How could I open those old 32 bit film cues in Logic and make sure the VE Pro plugins don't connect where they shouldn't?

    Thanks!!

  • Could you send a crash report of this to ? Thanks.

The plugin connects to the server with the IP address it was connected to when saving the master host project. A simply trick to avoid automatic connecting is to open the server(s) after loading the master host project. You can then manually connect the plugins to whichever server you like manually. This works since 5814. In older versions the plugin would infinitely try to connect to the inexistant server, resulting in very long loading times.

  • I no longer have that crash report, but I'll try to get it to crash again before I try your suggestion.

That should work!  I didn't know you could start the servers after starting Logic!  But again, I'll try it the old way and see if it will crash again in order to get you a report.

    Thanks!!!
