  • VEPro + Kontakt 4.1 + Logic 9.1.1 = hung notes?

    Hi everyone,

I'm running what I should imagine is a very standard setup for a lot of people around here, and often getting hung notes...

VEPro v4.0 build 5436 64bit server on a Nehalem 8core mac pro running OSX 10.6.4 slaved over gigabit LAN. Kontakt 4.1.0.3681 running in the 64bit server with Memory Server on, multi processor support disabled in Kontakt and set to 2 cores per instance in VEPro Server 64bit.

I'm loading up a couple of symphobia string patches into a single instance on the server, and connecting to is throught the 32bit VEPro AU plugin inside Logic 9.1.1 (running in 32bit mode on a second 8core nehalem running OSX 10.6.4).

I then program out a few basic chords on the symphobia patches in the Logic arrangement. If jump around the Logic arrange window by moving the playhead, I will frequently get hung notes, and the only way to stop these is to double click on the MIDI out monitor in the transport, or play back over the ends of the hung notes.

Why am I getting hung notes?

How do I stop this? (As far as I can tell, I need to get Logic to do an "all notes off", whenever I move the playhead, or hit stop, and at the moment this isn't happening!)

I've tried messing around with Logics MIDI reset and chase preferences and haven't been able to fix this. It's really, really really frustrating, and surely it's something other people are encountering?

(N.B. I've set this up on 2 entirely separate systems and encountered exactly the same problem).

Thanks so very much for anyone who can assist in fixing my problem!!!

  • I would also like to report that on the system described above, loading a VEP Au plugin instance to which more than 24 VEPro server instances are available will cause Logic to crash, without fail. Is this a known bug? Again, this is a bug which I found to be consistent between both of the 2 (near identical) systems I set up.

  • [bump] Anyone getting hung notes with VEP and Kontakt slaved to Logic 9.1.1?

  • I'm having the same issue with the crashing. For me, anything more than 25 available instances loaded will cause logic to crash. There is supposed to be a 128 instance limit, which is essential for some of us Logic users with big templates considering AU Core MIDI limitations. This crash issue is creating a real problem for me in terms of expandability.

  • The 24 instance limit doesn't bother me _too_ much, although it is a pain. I am using VEP to host Kontakt 4.1 only. 8 patches per instance (limited by AU midi spec) * 24 (max instances before Logic crash) = 192 Kontakt patches. Which is quite a lot.

However, hung notes are driving me mad. They seem sporadic though, sometimes I'll get loads of hung notes, other-times I'll go a full session without one. I'm trying to track down what it is that causes this variation in behaviour!

  • I got a fair amount of hung notes with that build, and worse with the next one; w. 5814 not at all.

edit: with the earlier builds I was using K3.5, I think I've not seen it with 4.1 as seems like I went to build 5814 first
